Arsenal heads into the World Cup break at the top of the Premier League table after their 2-0 win at Wolves yesterday. The Gunners have been in fine form for much of this season and had to take advantage of Manchester City’s loss to Brentford earlier in the day. The Gunners struggled in the first half of the game and Granit Xhaka had to be taken off because he felt ill. It has now been revealed that he suffered food poisoning and he was not the only player who ate the same meal or had the same symptoms. Speaking after the win, Arteta said via Matchplug: ‘[Xhaka] wasn’t feeling good, he was sick and he could not carry on. ‘Unfortunately, we have another four players with the same symptoms. So, I don’t know what exactly happened. ‘There were a few players who were not feeling great but obviously make three or four substitutions at that period.’

Liverpool owners the Fenway Sports Group is in talks to sell the Reds for the undervalue amount of $3bn. The owners recently put the club on the market as they searched for new owners for the very successful Premier League side. The Reds have been in fine form since they bought the club for around $400m in 2010 and they now seem keen on cashing in on it. They will remain and continue to invest in the team until a new buyer secures it from their hand, but Mathchplug understands they have been in talks with a US-back investment group for some time now. They are prepared to sell the club for $3bn, even though most financial analysts believe the team is worth up to $5bn at the moment. American investors have become interested in English football, but it remains unclear if they will spend as much money as their counterparts from the middle east, who have bought the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle.

Joe Cole has named his former club, Chelsea the most successful team in England in the last 20 years as they prepare to take on Arsenal. The Blues will host Premier League leaders Arsenal in a crunch match this summer as both clubs attempt to keep their title hopes alive. Arsenal has made a stunning start to this season and they are considered the favourites to win the league title at this start of the season. However, the Gunners have not won the Premier League since 2004 and their current form does not mean they have become a successful team yet. Cole said via Matchplug: ‘I do like what they’re doing. I enjoy watching Arsenal play, which I haven’t said for a long time. I like Mikel Arteta and what he does, how he sets up the team and I like the young players. ‘Nothing significant has been achieved at Arsenal as of yet with their high standards, but they’re on the right path. Chelsea have battled at a different level over the last 20 years. We have to say that. ‘Chelsea are the most successful team in the country over the last 20 years. I still feel Chelsea can more than compete and go above Arsenal very soon.’
