Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their quest to sign Alex Grimaldo.

The Red Devils have been tracking the former Barcelona youngster in their quest to sign a new left back, but may have lost out to SS Napoli.

According to reports in Portugal and Italy, the Italian Serie A leaders have stolen a match on United and have agreed to sign Grimaldo for £27 million.

The Sun claims the Italians are currently negotiating personal terms with the 22 years old.

If he does join Napoli, it would be a major blow  to Manchester United who are still in the hunt for a long term solution to their problematic left back, and that would force them to intensify their efforts to sign Tottenham’s Danny Rose.

Jose Mourinho has had to use Ashley Young as a makeshift left back this season due to the continued absence of Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo.

The Portuguese manager has reportedly given up on Luke Shaw, and although the England international has found his way back into the United’s first team in recent weeks, the Portuguese manager is still not a fan.
