John Lynch is taking different approaches with Brock Purdy and Deebo Samuel, aiming to do right by both. The 49ers general manager has confirmed at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that contract talks for extension are underway for Purdy, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, while also acknowledging that the team is exploring a trade for Samuel. “We have started negotiations,” Lynch said of contract talks for Purdy, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal and due a paltry $5.26 million in base salary. “We’re talking. I won’t go into negotiations like always is our stance.” “We’re on good terms with Deebo,” Lynch said. “He’s asked for a fresh start and I think we’re going to honor that.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been focussing on overhauling their midfield this summer, and with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai already signed, they are now also looking at defensive options, and a new centre-half is in their sights.
