However, they do have a chance to win the title with maximum points here if Freiburg avoids a defeat at Schalke. If they win here it would also mean they have beaten BVB three times in a single season for the very first time. One star man for this game in Robert Lewandoski. With Champions League commitments on their mind, Vincenzo Montella and Ernesto Valverde could spring some surprise changes in this game, but both of these teams would need the maximum points. Sevilla have earned a lot of plaudits for their exploits in the Champions League, but the Seville based side have been struggling in the league since they named Vincenzo Montella as their new manager. They are risking a third straight defeat if they fail to win here, and they have 8 losses from their last 15 games. They have just two wins from their last 7 home games, with three losses from their last six home games under Montella. Barcelona would be delighted that Argentina decided against using Lionel Messi in the last international break and Ernesto Valverde may also feel he does not really have to make changes as they don’t play in the Champions League until Wednesday. Messi has netted in his last 6 games for Barca and should score here, while the Catalans have won 4 of their last 6 visits to Sevilla and all of their last 5 meetings together. Sevilla have also conceded at least once in their last 14 home league games ahead of this match.

This game is the biggest fixture of the weekend in the Championship as two teams with Premier League ambitions meet each other. Wolves should have been under pressure to deliver here, but with over 10 points separating them from 3rd placed Fulham, they would feel they can lose here and be forgiven. Middlesbrough are the team under pressure as they are 6th on the league table but have just 1 point more than Bristol City and two teams could leapfrog them by Monday if they fail to get the maximum points here. Boro have taken 14 points from their last 6 games and they are gradually becoming a team that can get promotion back to the Premier League even if it is through the playoffs. They are strong at home and come into this game with 4 wins from their last 4 games. Wolves have been struggling away from home recently and their 4-1 hammering at Aston Villa just before the break shows they are a side that can be caught with Fulham also earning a deserved home win against them recently. They have won just 3 of their last 9 away games and they would be looking to get a win here also.

Cardiff City manager, Neil Warnock was understandably enraged when his side’s game against Derby County just before the international break was postponed. That postponement leaves them with a fixture pile-up and some tough games to come also, however, this match should not be one of those tough games with Burton currently fighting for survival. Cardiff have won their last seven league games on the bounce and this game looks a certain victory if they can just keep doing what they have been doing recently. They play some really tough games after this one, however, with 7 points between them and the chasing pack, together with the game they have in hand, they can lose 3 games and still remain second on the league table. Burton are fighting to remain in the Championship beyond this season, and they have a habit of picking some valuable points away from home, however, this doesn’t look like a game they can spring surprises. The Brewers have collected just one point and scored the same number of goals in their last 5 league games. They have also lost 3 of their last 4 league games by a margin of 2 or more goals.

These two sides would be competing at the World cup later this year in Russia, while they are not favourites in any way, they both look capable of causing upsets when the competition commences. After the last round of friendly games, Peru looked more prepared than Iceland as they ran our 2-0 victors over Croatia while Iceland were beaten 3-0 by Mexico in Miami. They have both never met before, but Peru looks the bookie’s favourite to win this game based on recent form. Iceland also have a major disadvantage as they have been without arguably their best player, Gylfi Sigurdsson who is out with an injury. The tiny Island nation faces a major challenge of lack of players as they have a very small pool of players to pick from, so in the event of injuries or suspension of their key players, they could have a dismal showing at the World Cup. Peru are unbeaten in their last 11 games and 7 of those matches have ended in wins for them and that win over a nearly full strength Croatia side would have boosted their confidence even more even though they were dominated in possession by the Europeans  

Mexico and Croatia cant complain about the draws they have been given for the World Cup later this year and their fans would be expecting them to at least finish inside the top two in the group stages. They have also been preparing themselves for the competition with friendly games against teams that have also qualified for the World Cup, however, it is the Mexicans who have met success recently. They Central Americans beat Iceland 3-0 in their last game while Croatia slumped to a shock 2-0 loss at the hands of Peru. Croatia holds the advantage in the head to head records as these sides have met 5 times since 1992. however, Mexico are the team in the form here as they have earned 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw from their last 6 games, while Croatia have 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses from the same number of games. The Croatians have lost 5 of their last 9 away games and they have goals in them from the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Kalinic who have scored a combined 45 goals since their debut. Mexico are also not short of goal scorers themselves with the likes of Javier Hernandez, Carlos Vela and Raul Jimenez all available to help with the goals.

Gareth Southgate had the chance to experiment on Friday as England’s World Cup preparation got off to a winning start against an underwhelming Dutch side. England won, but in truth, it was a boring and one-sided contest in the Netherlands. The 1-0 win came thanks to a Jese Lingard strike, but Italy who are also recovering from their failure to make it to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup should provide a tougher test. Lingard was impressive while Dele Alli’s had a rather poor cameo and that could see the Manchester United man start ahead of him in Russia if he maintains this form, and this game against Italy offers them both another chance to stake their claim. England are unbeaten in their last 7 games, but they have drawn against their biggest opponents at home including the likes of Brazil and Germany, while finding in relatively easy to beat lesser opponents like Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia, Slovakia and the very poor Netherlands. Italy would be tougher opponents on Tuesday, even though the Azurri did fail to qualify for the World cup and lost their last friendly game in Manchester against Argentina with Messi remaining on the bench.
