Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, is not a fan of Sergino Dest and he has made it clear that the full-back is not in his plans. Barca signed him in 2020, and he was a key member of their squad under Ronald Koeman. However, he struggled to play in the last campaign and Barca has to offload some players from their books. Xavi recently spoke about his options at right-back and he ignored the former Ajax man, claiming Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto and Jules Kounde can play there, even though the latter has not been registered to play for them yet. Asked about Dest, he said, as quoted by Matchplug: ‘He knows what the situation is.’  This is a clear sign that the former midfielder wants to force the full-back out and he has interest from the Premier League. Manchester United has the strongest in him, with the Red Devils now being managed by his former boss, Erik Ten Hag.

However, the talks have not progressed because his demands are proving an issue. Matchplug understands that the Irons are being asked to pay him a huge salary, but they believe it is unrealistic and will now abandon their pursuit of his signature. Chelsea has added Marc Cucurella to their squad and they now have four left-backs in the group. The Blues will gladly offload Emerson, who spent the last season on loan at Lyon and did well. The Euro 2020 winner has admirers back home in Italy, but it remains unclear if any of them can meet the amount West Ham has paid to Chelsea. If he remains at Stamford Bridge in this campaign, he is likely to spend all or most of it on the bench because the competition for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s team is much. Although West Ham could revive the move, for now, they are considering alternative targets.
