beckman signs one-year deal with devils

Adam Beckman signs one-year deal with New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Adam Beckman to a one-year, two-way deal, they announced on Monday. This contract will make Beckman $775,000 at the NHL level and $125,000 at the AHL level. Drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft, he divided this past year between Minnesota and Iowa. In 11 matches with Minnesota, he secured two assists. With Iowa, Adam scored 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points in 51 regular season matches. Besides his nine-game pro stint with Iowa in 2020-21, Beckman went pro full-time in the 2021-22  campaign. Before this, he played with Spokane Chiefs (WHL) where he pulled 97 goals and 99 assists for 196 points in 153 career regular season matches. The Devils drafted Beckman in June in place of Graeme Clarke. He will likely begin the season with the Utica Comet. Although he has watched NHL matches every season since going pro, he might find it hard securing a full-time position with the Devils in 2024-25.

Shohei Ohtani stuns at All-Star red carpet with unique suit

Shohei Ohtani recently reinforced the saying “a dog is man’s best friend” when he chose to surprise baseball fans with a one-of-a-kind suit at the MLB All-Star tournament. At Tuesday’s All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Frutitas, he brought that quote to life when he wore a suit with his dog, Decoy, designed on the inside. “I chose the color based on my dog, and here’s my dog in my suit,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton. Back in 2023, when Ohtani accepted his AL MVP Award on MLB Network, his dog, Decoy joined him. From that point, the relationship between the pitcher and his dog has attracted more attention, to the extent that the Los Angeles Dodgers are sharing an Ohtani-Decoy bobblehead on August 28th at the Dodger Stadium. Putting his dog in a suit goes to show that he is just like the average dog parent. In this specific manner, Shohei is very relatable with the admiration he has for Decoy.

aaron judge sets new record for the new york yankees

Aaron Judge sets new record for the New York Yankees

It was on Saturday that Aaron Judge and Juan Soto debuted their new handshake, going over the movements of their home-run celebration within the clubhouse walls. The Yankees’ captain nodded at his teammate and said; “We’re going to do this a couple of times today.” The teammates kept their promise, with Judge producing more long ball history to help New York set their first series victory in a month. Behind his Major League-leading 34th homer, the Yankees entered a virtual tie with the Baltimore Orioles on top of the American League East with a 6-1 win at Camden Yards. “Just having a little bit of fun,” Judge said. “When he’s locked in like that and seeing so many good pitches, it’s fun to hit behind him and see what he does. It’s just impressive at-bat after at-bat.” New York had not won a series since June 10-13 at Kansas City, scoring 0-7-1 over that span. Saturday was their first time winning successive games since their series with the Royals. Soto and Judge placed the Bombers up big, clearing the center-field wall with back-to-back fifth-inning home runs off right-hander Grayson Rodriguez. Soto lined a changeup a Statcast-projected 426 feet, and Judge unloaded on a trademark 431-foot blast “to the moon that just keeps on going,” as manager Aaron Boone described it. “It’s always great to see that,” Soto said. “We just literally were talking about it this morning. … We were talking about our handshake. We were trying to do it a couple of times today. ” Judge ran around the bases as the first Yankee to hit 34 home runs before an All-Star break. Roger Maris (33 in 1961) and Judge (33 in 2022) previously shared the club record for homers before the break. Judge is on track for 57 homers. Boone said that 34 homers at the break would have been “nice, but very believable.” While catcher Austin Wells, who hit a three-run homer in the first inning Saturday, claimed he predicted Judge reaching the break with exactly 34 homers and 85 RBIs. “That was my guess for what he would have, the last time we were here [in late April],” Wells said. “That is unbelievable, really. Getting to be in the dugout and watching him do that, I can’t put it into words. I’ve never seen anything like it before. ” Judge’s 34 homers are tied for seventh most in Major League history before an All-Star break, trailing Barry Bonds (39 in 2001), Chris Davis (37in 2013), Reggie Jackson (37 in 1969), Mark McGwire (37 in 1998), Luis González (35 in 2001) and Ken Griffey Jr. (35 in 1998). Frank Howard also had 34 in 1969. Showcasing one of his favorite hitting backdrops, Camden Yards has always been a friendly environment for Judge, who has hardly been restricted by the Yankees’ decision to move the left-field fence back several years ago. They did this partly, to neutralize dangerous right-handed hitters like him. Saturday’s home run was Judge’s 42nd against Baltimore, the most he has hit against any opponent. Aaron also hit 24 home runs in 55 matches at Camden Yards, including 10 in his last 17 matches (since May 17, 2022). It marked the second time this campaign that the Yankees have hit consecutive home runs; Soto and Judge also collaborated for successive blasts on May 34 at San Diego. “We needed this to get back on track,” Soto said. New York delivered four first-inning runs to support right-hander Luis Gil, who picked up his team-leading 10th victory with six innings of one-run ball. “I’m very happy about the way the season has gone,” Gil said through an interpreter. “To be here, healthy and get the opportunity to go out there and compete, I’m extremely happy.” Gil held Baltimore to five hits and one walk in a seven-strikeout performance. He showed his improved slider, a difference-maker since he tweaked his grip to gain movement while maintaining velocity. Wells said the offering is now a third plus pitch for Gil. “He’s been a huge factor for us,” Judge said. “Especially early on when we didn’t have our ace Gerrit Cole with us, having a guy like him step up and make the team out of camp was impressive. That’s what you love to see. You’ve got to have guys like that step up if you want to have a deep run into the season.”

sutton suspended for violating personal conduct policy

NFL suspends Cameron Sutton for violating personal conduct policy

Cameron Sutton committed some offseason transgressions that have now cost him half of an NFL season. The NFL suspended the Pittsburgh Steelers player for eight matches without salary for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.  Sutton’s suspension comes after an arrest warrant was put out for him on grounds of an alleged domestic violence incident in March. Sutton turned himself in and reportedly entered a pretrial diversion program on misdemeanour battery charges. The league investigated the incident involving the cornerback and decided that he breached the personal conduct policy, causing them to suspend him. After spending one season in Detroit, the Lions released Sutton following the issuance of the warrant. He signed a new contract with the Steelers two months later, going back to the team that chose him with the 94th pick in the 2017 draft. Sutton will be eligible for reinstatement on October 29th following Pittsburgh’s Week 8 match against the New York Giants.

John Byrant has been promoted to the front of the bench after joining the Bulls as an assistant coach in 2020. Henry Domercant will take over as an assistant coach on the second bench, transitioning from his role as head coach of the Windy City Bulls. tatum says title ends debate on his elite status

Jayson Tatum says title ends ‘debate’ on his elite status

Fresh off an NBA title and signing a historic contract extension over the weekend, Jayson Tatum visited Sin City for his first Team USA training camp practice on Monday. “A hundred percent,” Tatum said, shortly after participating in his first practice here after being excused from the opening two days of preparation for the Paris Olympic Games. “Just being at the topic of discussion of so many debates or whatever it is … ‘Can he lead a team? Is he a top-five player?’ “There’s still a lot of things I guess they can debate. But now I’ve done something that they can’t debate: I’ve won a championship. Having that under my belt, like obviously it’s still conversations to be had or whatever people want to say, but they always got to refer to me as an NBA champion.” There is no arguing that Tatum and the Boston Celtics followed up leading the league with 64 regular season victories by going 16-3 in the postseason. This is second only to the 16-1 mark by the Golden State Warriors in terms of playoff winning percentage since the NBA went to four seven-game rounds in the playoffs. Tatum said that the championship parade last month was “the best two hours of my life” and that it was hard to explain how “insane” the atmosphere and energy were in the city that day, as the Celtics beat long-time rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, to become the NBA leader with 18 championships.  However, if anyone was wondering that the Celtics, especially coach Joe Mazzulla would be relaxing after winning that first championship, Jayson made it clear that would not happen. “Joe is already trying to draw up s— for next season,” Tatum said with a smile. “And I was like, ‘Joe, f— that. We just won a championship. Enjoy it. Relax.’ “Like, I’m not worried about any sets that he’s trying to put in right now. We had a laugh about it, because he’s just so driven — which we all are, but it’s like, man, we worked so hard for this. So we got to enjoy it.” Tatum is also enjoying Boston’s roster continuity entering next season. The team has re-signed centres Luke Kornet, Neemias Queta and Xavier Tillman in free agency. They inked both Jayson and All-Defensive Team guard Derrick White to long-term contract extensions. Currently, Boston has kept 13 of 15 players from its championship-winning roster, with first-round pick Baylor Scheierman replacing Oshae Brisset and SVI Mykhailiuk. Tatum is excited for this change, stating that he hopes everyone from last season’s team will be back.

hill excited to 'see where I fit into' new WR market

Tyreek Hill ‘excited to see where I fit’ into new WR market

This NFL offseason has washed in a wave of new wide receiver contracts, resetting the top of the market position. One player hoping to ride this wave is Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill, who said he was thinking about his next deal and is thrilled to see what his new pay standard would mean for him. “I’m very excited to just be a part of the old wave, which was $30 million, and Justin Jefferson came and surpassed that, man,” Hill said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. “So, very proud of those guys, happy for obviously my teammate (Jaylen) Waddle getting his new deal. For guys like me, that’s great. I’m 30 years old, also looking for a new deal. So, very, very excited to see where I fit into that category. It’s amazing.” When Hill signed his present four-year, $120 million extension with the Miami Dolphins after joining through a trade from Chiefs, his $30 million annually average was at the top of the rankings for the position. But only in the last three months, three players have exceeded that average, according to Over the Cap. This includes Minnesota Vikings’ Jefferson, who set the new high mark with his $35 million per year average. Hill’s teammate Waddle also signed a three-year $84.75 million extension that is just below his average. Hill is set to receive $19.665 million in 2024, the last year with guaranteed money, indicating that the time has come for him to get an extension to put his salary more in line with current standards for a player of his calibre. He has been one of the best at his position joining the Dolphins, earning first-team All-Pro honours both years while also continuing his streak of making the Pro Bowl each of his eight seasons.  This most recent year, Hill led the league by averaging 112.4 yards per game, with a total of 1,799 yards, just short of his goal of becoming the first WR to break 2,000 yards in a season. But, how paying him fits into the Dolphins’ future plans could be complicated because the team is spending money in other places. For now, Hill said he is not focusing on the money, and his immediate priority still remains leading his team to postseason glory, which has eluded them despite succeeding in the regular-season. “Oh yeah, for sure, so very excited for it, man, but the real goal is to win the Super Bowl,” Hill said. “It’s cool to get paid and all that, but you know being able to win a Super Bowl and bring something special to the city of Miami, that’s something that can live with us forever. I believe that’s very monumental for all of us. Create greatness, man.”

Overall, the Tigers average 4.8 runs, while their pitching concedes 4.29 runs per match. Detroit’s offense is 23rd in the MLB, while the pitching is ranked 13th. However, the Tigers have often failed to give him any run support. Bibee has been strong this campaign, and he currently has an ERA of 3.67. The Guardians and Tigers bats will be cold here, and the game will struggle to reach the five run mark. Punters are advised to back under. Final Prediction: Cleveland Guardians Under.
