With the transfer window still a couple of months away, clubs are already mapping out their summer business, and Arsenal appear to be no different as they continue their push to reach the next level under Mikel Arteta.Fabregas Eyed For Chelsea Role But Concerns Over Club Instability Could Put Him Off
Arteta has steadily built one of the most competitive squads in the Premier League since taking charge at the Emirates, even if the major trophies have so far eluded him. The Arsenal board have backed him heavily in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Viktor Gyokeres for significant fees.
On the whole, those signings have been considered a success. Gyokeres in particular has contributed 16 goals and three assists across all competitions, with his 11 Premier League goals making him the club’s top scorer by at least five goals.
However, despite those numbers, there is a sense that the Swedish striker has not consistently lit up games or contributed enough beyond his goals. That growing feeling appears to be influencing Arsenal’s thinking in the transfer market, with reports suggesting the club are exploring a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.
If Arsenal do push ahead with a move for Alvarez, it would raise serious questions about Gyokeres’ long-term future at the club, having only joined relatively recently for a substantial fee.
