Traditional African rivals, Ghana and Nigeria, have been drawn together in this mouth-watering FIFA World Cup playoff. The Ghanaians will host the Super Eagles first and they will be keen to get a good home advantage ahead of the second leg in Abuja.
They flopped at the AFCON and left the competition in the group stages. Nigeria did well in the group stages, but were stunned in the next round by Tunisia. The Super Eagles know they need to be at the World Cup as a gift to their fans and will take this game seriously.
The Ghana team is filled with much older and experienced players like Thomas Partey and the Ayew brothers, but Nigeria’s team is being rebuilt. They have a much younger group of players to choose from including Victor Osimhen and Emmanuel Dennis.
These players have been in top form for their European clubs and they will now look to show that for their country during this break.
This is one of the most important fixtures for both countries, but Ghana will feel they have to win this first leg and the Head to Head between both nations favours the Black Stars. Most of the current Nigerian stars don’t know about the rivalry between both nations and will want to write their own history.
