West Ham rejected Manchester United’s £100m bid for Rice last summer

Manchester United reportedly made a £100 million ($120m) bid for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice last summer but were rebuffed as West Ham wanted more for the player.

Last summer, the Old Trafford side were in desperate need of a combative, ball-carrying midfielder and saw Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong as the perfect player. But when their move for the Netherlands player stalled, the Red Devil approached West Ham for Rice.

However, the London club were not satisfied with their  £100m bid and were holding out for £120m ($144m), plus add-ons.

Although they eventually signed Casemiro from Real Madrid last summer, United will reportedly return for Rice this summer. But this time, they will face competition for the player as Arsenal also hold a genuine interest in the player.

Chelsea are also reportedly in the queue for the player’s signature, but the trio will have to meet West Ham’s $144m plus add-ons valuation to land the player.
