England manager Thomas Tuchel wants Jude Bellingham to use his competitive fire to inspire – not intimidate – his teammates.
The Real Madrid midfielder had to be held back by Tuchel after England’s 3-1 loss to Senegal on Tuesday, a historic result that marked the first-ever win for an African team over England. Bellingham believed he had equalized late in the game, only for the goal to be controversially disallowed before Senegal sealed the win in stoppage time.
Tuchel said Bellingham’s passion is a strength but warned it must be controlled.
Tuchel has yet to convince in his new role, with three unconvincing wins over Albania, Latvia, and Andorra, followed by this defeat. Still, he boasts a talented squad and was brought in to end England’s major trophy drought, dating back to 1966.
Finding the right balance remains a top priority.
