Retegui Penalty Rescues Atalanta in Draw with Lecce

A Mateo Retegui penalty helped Atalanta earn a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Lecce at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.

Lecce took the lead in the first half after a quiet start. Ante Rebic was brought down by Isak Hien, and after a VAR check, a penalty was awarded. Jesper Karlsson converted to give the visitors their first lead in a match since early March.

The goal sparked Atalanta into life. Wladimiro Falcone was called into action multiple times, denying both Mario Pasalic and Davide Zappacosta before halftime.

Atalanta improved after the break, especially following the introduction of Juan Cuadrado. The Colombian won a penalty midway through the second half, which Retegui calmly put away to level the score.

Retegui nearly grabbed a winner late on but saw his header bounce off the post. Marten de Roon also tested Falcone, but the Lecce keeper held firm.

The draw leaves Lecce two points above the drop zone, while Atalanta edge closer to securing a top-four finish.
