Manchester United have identified Real Madrid fringe midfielder Mateo Kovacic as the perfect midfielder to cover for Paul Pogba’s absence, and are willing to spend £27 million for his signature.
The Red Devils have had to play without Pogba in so many games this season due to injuries and suspension, this has prompted them dramatically change their systems most times.
However, Kovacic is a similar player to Pogba as he has the technique to retain the ball and drive his team forward with pace.
This ability has attracted Jose Mourinho to the Croatian midfielder and he is willing to guarantee him first team action ahead of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.
With the transfer window just a few days away, the Red Devils would be willing to listen to offers for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who has been missing in action for them for a long time now, and funds realised from his transfer would be reinvested straight away in a deal for Kovacic.
Kovacic has failed to nail a starting spot at Real Madrid since he joined the European champions in the summer of 2015, always being used as a late substitute or in games with weaker oppositions.
He is reportedly willing to consider a move to the Premier League and if he can be guaranteed minutes at Manchester United, he would not decline an offer from them.
