Real Madrid are facing a difficult decision over the future of Vinicius Jr., with growing calls for the Spanish giants to consider selling him at the end of the season.
The Brazilian winger, 25, has two years left on his contract but has so far refused to sign an extension. Reports indicate that he is demanding an increase from his current €400,577 (£345,369) per week to around €600,962 (£518,137), a figure the club is unwilling to meet.
His stance has placed Real in a precarious situation. Allowing him to run down his contract could result in the forward leaving for free in 2027. Questions are now being asked over whether Vinicius Jr. still represents value to the club.
His off-field controversies have only added to the tension. The latest incident came during Real Madrid’s recent clash with Real Oviedo. The forward appeared to taunt the home supporters by holding up two fingers after scoring. The gesture interpreted as a suggestion that Oviedo would be relegated.
The club’s leadership is understood to be growing frustrated, especially after being pipped to last season’s LaLiga title and Copa del Rey crown by arch-rivals Barcelona.
Vinicius has spoken publicly about his ambitions, stating he wants to “make history” with Real Madrid. But that promise is starting to ring hollow inside the Santiago Bernabéu.
