RB Leipzig have dismissed head coach Marco Rose with immediate effect. It was announced just days before their German Cup semi-final against Stuttgart.
The decision comes after Leipzig’s 1-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach. It marked their sixth consecutive away match without a win and dropped them to sixth in the Bundesliga.
Rose, took charge in September 2022 and led the club to a German Cup triumph and a third-place league finish in his debut season. He also guided them to DFL Supercup success with a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the start of the current campaign.
Despite past achievements, Leipzig’s poor form forced the club to act. Sporting director Marcel Schaefer stated:
“We believed in Marco and his team for a long time and tried everything to turn things around. However, given the current situation and lack of results, we are convinced a new impulse is needed to achieve our goals this season.”
Jurgen Klopp, Head of Soccer at parent company Red Bull, was not mentioned in the club’s statement. He had also been previously ruled out taking over as coach.
