Ange Postecoglou has declared he is ready to return to management in Europe, insisting his hunger and drive to succeed remain as strong as ever despite a tough year on the sidelines.
The 60-year-old Australian has been out of work since October, following a difficult 40-day spell at Nottingham Forest that ended in his dismissal. Before that, he was sacked by Tottenham despite leading the club to their first major trophy in 17 years, beating Manchester United in the 2025 Europa League final.
Speaking to Australian sports radio station SEN, Postecoglou made clear he has no intention of stepping away from the game. “I want to win things. I still have that drive and passion to achieve, that has not changed,” he said. “The fact now is the first time I am coming off a bad experience, that is just more fuel for me. Wherever I go there will be plenty of scepticism, that is brilliant, that is what I need. I am not done yet, mate.”
While he stopped short of revealing his next destination, Postecoglou hinted he has a clear idea of where he wants to go, adding that finding the right fit in terms of ambition and understanding will be key. “I know whatever it is going to be, I have this thing in my head that this will be the best one I have done yet because of the recent experiences. Maybe I needed them.”
The Australian also admitted it has been difficult watching both Tottenham and Forest struggle since his departure. Spurs sit just one point above the relegation zone, while Forest are three points adrift, and the two sides met on Sunday in a basement battle that ended in a 3-0 home defeat for Spurs. “To watch them struggle has not been easy and it is not the way I thought it would go,” Postecoglou said. “They are in a hell of a fight. They have some fighting to do and they have the quality to get out.”
