Paul Doyle, a 53-year-old former British Marine, appeared in court on Friday. He was charged in connection with the crash that injured 79 people during Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations.
Paul Doyle faces seven charges, including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The incident occurred on Monday when a dark Ford Galaxy drove into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.
In a brief hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, Doyle did not enter a plea. A provisional trial date has been set for November 24.
He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on August 14, where he is expected to submit a plea.
During an earlier appearance at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, Doyle confirmed his personal details and appeared emotional as proceedings began.
Prosecutor Philip Astbury noted the case remains under active investigation, with numerous witnesses and extensive CCTV footage yet to be reviewed. Merseyside Police confirmed seven people remain hospitalized. The Crown Prosecution Service called the case “complex and ongoing.”
