Despite having two of the NHL’s top scorers in Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers have been struggling to find the back of the net.
General manager Stan Bowman acknowledged the issue at the NHL GM meetings on Monday, stating, “We haven’t scored a lot of goals, actually. That’s probably been our biggest challenge recently.”
Since February 1, the Oilers have averaged just 2.88 goals per game, ranking 21st in the league during that span. While their power play has been strong at 31.6 percent (fifth in the NHL), their 5-on-5 scoring has been a major concern. Edmonton has scored just 27 goals at even strength, ranking 26th, and their 5-on-5 shooting percentage of 6.
