Everton manager David Moyes has backed Arsenal and dismissed criticism of their style of play as his side prepare to travel to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Arsenal go into the game looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, while Everton arrive in strong away form. Since Moyes returned to the club, the Toffees have picked up more points on the road than any other side in the division apart from Arsenal, with 24 of their 43 league points this season coming away from home.
When asked about the scrutiny surrounding Arsenal’s set-piece tactics and physical approach at corners, Moyes was quick to shut down the debate and sing the praises of Mikel Arteta’s side.
“What criticism? They have done brilliantly, Arsenal. Mikel has done brilliant,” Moyes said. “I know they have been runners-up to Manchester City but there is absolutely no shame in that, with how good Manchester City have been over the last decade.”
The Everton boss went further, suggesting Arsenal are better placed than ever to go all the way this season. “He has got a great team and I think they have probably as big a chance this year of winning the league as they have ever had. They are right in the mix in the Champions League, they have got a League Cup final coming up, they are in the FA Cup. So I would have to question the people who have been critical, that is for sure.”
