Luciano Acosta is the new MLS MVP after dominating the votes, getting 60% of the votes cast by media, players, and clubs. Behind the Cincinnati FC player were Denis Bouanga (Los Angeles FC) and Thiago Almada (Atlanta United).
One of the reasons Acosta won the award was his exceptional season, commemorated by 17 goals and 14 assists. A remarkable achievement that earned him the award for the best ‘style’ of Lionel Messi: with class and efficiency.
Acosta is the sixth player in the MLS’ history to have at least 10 goals and 10 assists in three or more seasons, becoming the 14th player to reach 50 goals and 70 assists in his career.
It is worth mentioning that Luciano is a vital part of the team that will play for a spot in the competition final against Columbus Crew at the TQL Stadium.
In addition to the MVP award, Acosta also received the highest individual honour in the MLS, he was named MLS Player of the Week twice and as many times as MLS Player of the Month.
The 29-year-old player, who started his career at Boca Juniors, is the first in the history of FC Cincinnati to win the MLS MVP and the ninth South American to get the award.
The last winners of the MVP award were Josef Martínez (Atlanta United, 2018), joining Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers, 2015) Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew, 2008), and Christian Gómez (DC United, 2006).
