Liverpool attacker Mo. Salah has been named BBC African footballer of the year 2017.
The Egyptian saw off competition from his team mate Sadio Mane, Chelsea’s Victor Moses, Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, and Naby Keita of RB Leipzig.
Salah started the year by leading Egypt to the African cup of nations final, before also helping them qualify for the FIFA World Cup next year, by scoring 5 goals in their last 7 qualifiers.
His club form was also electrifying as he weighed in with goals and assists for AS Roma in the 2016/2017 season, a performance that saw him join Liverpool for a record £39 million.
He has started life back in the Premier League in solid fashion, scoring 13 goals in 16 Premier League games, and 20 goals in all competition so far.
His is the first man from his country to win the award since Mohammed Aboutrika in 2008, and the first Liverpool player since El Hadji Diouf who won it in the year 2002.
Before 2001, the award was BBC African Sportsperson of the Year, which meant both Athletes and players of other Sports could win the award.
Other notable winners include Didier Drogba, Riyad Mahrez and Yaya Toure.
