Torey Krug NHL career is likely over, according to St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. The 34-year-old defenseman missed the entire 2024-25 season following left ankle surgery.
Armstrong expressed little expectation of Krug returning to the ice, though he acknowledged the player’s hope to prove him wrong. Krug’s injury, stemming from pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle, is a result of a previous bone fracture during his time with the Boston Bruins. Despite rehabilitation efforts, the severity of the injury has made a return to play highly uncertain.
Krug spoke emotionally about the possibility of his career ending early, reflecting on the challenges of missing a full season. The veteran defenseman, known for his 13-season career and 483 points, expressed the tough mental and physical toll of the situation. He had spent nine seasons with the Bruins before joining the Blues on a seven-year, $45.5 million contract in 2020.
Krug’s potential retirement would mark the end of a decorated career, which included multiple playoff appearances and a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2019 with Boston.
