Manchester United are prepared to back Jose Mourinho in his bid to sign a more productive attacker next summer.
The Red Devils are one of the top six’s lowest scorers and Mourinho has identified Napoli’s Dries Mertens as an attacker that can bring goals to his team. Mertens joined Napoli from PSV in 2013 and scored an incredible 28 goals last season even though he was converted to a striker only half way through the season.
He has scored 45 goals in the last two seasons and several top European sides have begun taking notice of him. According to Sun Sport, despite his incredible run of form, his release clause stands at a lowly £25million for teams outside of Italy.
Jose Mourinho is tempted to bring him in and another Belgian could be moving in the opposite direction. Per the reports on Sun Sport, Marouane Fellaini could be on his way to Naples as Napoli remains one of his several admirers.
Fellaini has refused to sign a new Manchester United deal and claimed earlier this week that United are in a week position as they did not offer him a new deal quick enough.
