SC Freiburg ended a seven-game losing streak against Borussia Dortmund with a 1-1 draw at the Europa-Park Stadion.
Dortmund, looking to bounce back from a 2-2 Champions League draw with FK Bodø/Glimt on Wednesday, started strongly and nearly took the lead within five minutes. Yan Couto’s cross found Serhou Guirassy unmarked, but his header went just wide. Guirassy then came close to creating a goal for Carney Chukwuemeka, whose effort from close range rattled the post.
The visitors’ persistent pressure paid off just after the half-hour mark when they deservedly took the lead. However, Freiburg thought they had snatched a late winner five minutes from time, only for Igor Matanović’s close-range finish to be ruled out for offside.
The draw sees Freiburg rise to ninth in the Bundesliga, while Dortmund remain third, missing the chance to reduce the gap to leaders Bayern Munich.
