Reports linking Erling Haaland with a move to Barcelona have been firmly dismissed by the Manchester City striker’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta.
Speculation emerged on Thursday suggesting that Victor Font, a candidate for the Barcelona presidency, had held talks to secure a preferential option on Haaland should he win the election. The move was seen as a bold play to challenge current president Joan Laporta, who remains the clear favourite for re-election.
However, Pimenta moved quickly to kill off the rumours, telling Spanish television show El Chiringuito that no contact of any kind had taken place.
“I have said many times that we have a lot of respect for Barcelona, a lot of admiration, but there has been no contact, neither with Erling Haaland nor with his management, from FC Barcelona regarding a transfer,” the Portuguese agent said.
Pimenta also pointed to Haaland’s recent contract renewal at the Etihad as further evidence that a move is not on the agenda. “The player renewed his contract just a few months ago, he is very happy at Manchester City, everything is going well, and honestly, we have nothing to discuss about a transfer when the situation at Manchester City is so positive,” she added.
The denial effectively ends the story before it had a chance to gather momentum, with Haaland showing no signs of wanting to leave City as they push for honours on multiple fronts this season.
