After two years away from football due to a serious knee injury suffered in a jet ski accident in July 2023, Nyheim Hines is fully healthy and ready for a comeback.
Now a free agent, the former Colts and Bills running back and return specialist is searching for a team where he can restart his career.
“I’m far from done, and the story is in my hand,” Hines told The Charlotte Observer.
“I put myself in this position, but as athletes, we’re in an unfortunate situation in a job … that we can’t control everything, but the pen is always in our hand, based on our performance. So, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to grab that pen and write whatever story I want.”
Hines was originally a fourth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. He played a versatile role as a rotational running back and kick returner, becoming a key special teams contributor. In 2022, he was traded midseason to the Buffalo Bills, where he made an unforgettable impact.
In Buffalo’s first game after Damar Hamlin’s on-field cardiac arrest, Hines returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, including one on the game’s opening play.
Now 27, Hines is focused on proving he still has the explosiveness and value he showed before the injury.
