Former Ravens DL and Super Bowl XLVII Champion Arthur Jones Dies at 39

Arthur Jones, a former Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman and Super Bowl XLVII champion, has died at the age of 39.

The school and the Ravens did not disclose a cause of death.

“Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said. “His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity continuously uplifted others.”

Jones, a fifth-round pick in 2010, played four seasons with the Ravens, recording 8.5 of his 10 career sacks in 2012-13. He was a key contributor in Baltimore’s 2012 Super Bowl run, famously sacking Colin Kaepernick just before the Superdome’s power outage and recovering a fumble in the victory over the 49ers.

He later played for the Colts (2014-15) and Washington (2017).

At Syracuse, He was a dominant defensive tackle with 38.5 tackles for loss — still a school record for an interior lineman — and was a two-time first-team All-Big East selection.

Jones was the older brother of former UFC heavyweight champion Jon and NFL defensive end Chandler, a four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner with the Patriots.
