Fernandez Played Through Conjunctivitis in Chelsea’s Final Home Games

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has revealed he has been battling conjunctivitis, significantly affecting his vision during the team’s last two Premier League matches.

As reported by the BBC, the 24-year-old World Cup winner featured for the full 90 minutes in both Chelsea 2-0 loss to Newcastle and their narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester United, despite struggling with impaired eyesight due to the eye infection.

Despite the discomfort, Fernandez was determined to remain on the pitch. Following his diagnosis, he approached manager Enzo Maresca to ask to stay in the starting XI as Chelsea continued their pursuit of a Champions League spot.

The Argentine international took to Instagram after the win over United, which was Chelsea’s final home game of the season, to address the situation with a touch of humor.

He wrote: “Last match at home with this group that will give it all until the end, we have two finals left. Thank you to the fans for the support all the season. My first game playing with one eye.”
