Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been arrested on an attempted murder charge. He was connected to a May shooting in Miami, authorities confirmed Thursday.

According to Miami police spokesman Mike Vega, the 37-year-old was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Dubai and transported to Essex County, New Jersey. He is being held pending extradition to Miami. It remains unclear how long Brown had been in Dubai, though he had posted on social media from the city in recent months.

An arrest warrant alleges that Brown grabbed a handgun from a security staffer following  a celebrity boxing event and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man with whom he had earlier fought. Nantambu told police one bullet grazed his neck.

Court documents do not list an attorney for Brown, and no timetable has been announced for his return to Miami.

If convicted, the second-degree attempted murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Brown, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time All-Pro, played 12 NFL seasons — most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers — and last appeared in 2021 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He recorded 928 receptions, 12,291 yards, and 83 touchdowns over his career.
