Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has officially left the Old Trafford club after his contract ran out last month.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been at United since 2013 and became the club’s record clean sheet holder this season. However, he now leaves the club in controversial circumstances after he was denied a contract renewal when his contract expired at the end of June.
Manchester United had remained in discussions with the 32-year-old over a contract renewal up until last week. But with Erik ten Hag clearly looking for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana to become his new number one, De Gea decided it was best to seek a new club, with offers on the table from the Saudi Pro League.

De Gea said: “Now is the right time to undertake a new challenge to push myself again in new surroundings.
“I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’veWe’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club.”
De Gea leaves without the farewell he would have wished for: in front of a packed Old Trafford.
With his exit, United can now accelerate their Interest in signing Inter Milan’sMilan’s Andre Onana, who has been valued at £50 million by the San Siro club.
