The Dallas Cowboys have bolstered their pass rush by trading for Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Rashan Gary in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick, according to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Gary, 28, spent seven seasons in Green Bay after being selected 12th overall in the 2019 draft. He recorded 46.5 sacks as a Packer and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2024, but his production declined in recent years. He finished with 7.5 sacks in 2025, all of which came before Week 9. The drop-off prompted Green Bay to move on. The trade saves the Packers nearly $11 million in cap space, though it comes with $17 million in dead money.
Gary hinted at his departure last week with a since-deleted social media post saying goodbye to Green Bay.
The fit in Dallas makes sense on several levels. New Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker was on the Packers staff during Gary’s first two seasons, and Gary also reunites with defensive tackle Kenny Clark. With Jadeveon Clowney and Dante Fowler hitting free agency, Gary steps in to address a clear need on the edge.
He brings value beyond pass rushing as well, with his ability as a run defender giving Dallas added flexibility on that side of the ball.
For the price of a late Day 3 pick a year away, the Cowboys land a proven veteran at a position of need. That said, with questions throughout their defence, this likely will not be their last move of the offseason.
