Coventry City maintained their five-point advantage at the top of the Championship with a 1-0 victory over Bristol City on Saturday. Ephron Mason-Clark scored the decisive goal in the second half, helping the Sky Blues stay ahead of second-placed Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough continued their fine run under new head coach Kim Hellberg, winning 3-1 at Queens Park Rangers. David Strelec and Morgan Whittaker put Boro 2-0 up by halftime, and Tommy Conway sealed the win with a penalty in the second half. The result extended Middlesbrough’s gap over third-placed Preston to seven points, with only the top two earning automatic promotion to the Premier League.
At the other end of the table, Portsmouth climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 comeback win over Blackburn at Fratton Park. Yuki Ohashi had given the visitors the lead, but Callum Lang equalised in the 62nd minute before Ibane Bowat headed home Conor Chaplin’s corner late on.
Norwich also strengthened their survival hopes, with Jovon Makama scoring twice in the second half to secure a 2-1 win over Southampton at Carrow Road, keeping the Canaries’ fight to escape the bottom three alive.
