Brad Holmes Unlikely to Pursue Star Pass Rusher in Offseason Moves

It doesn’t seem like Lions General Manager Brad Holmes is willing to make a big splash this offseason. While Detroit has been linked to star pass rushers in trade and free agency, Holmes was direct when asked at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine if he planned to add another: “Probably not.” His response followed his comments on how hard it is to find talented edge rushers, especially after losing Aidan Hutchinson mid-season to a fractured leg. “It’s hard. There’s not a lot of those guys available,” Brad Holmes said. “And so just because we lost a star pass rusher due to injury, that doesn’t mean that other teams are going to say, ‘Hey, we have a star pass rusher. I know you lost one, but we have one. Would you like to have this one?’ “No, that’s a star pass rush for that team, and they’re trying to win games. So, and it’s not just a trade deadline, it’s, you know, free agency, during the year. Those guys are hard to find, you know, that’s why it’s called a premium position. Those guys are hard to acquire, and it’s hard to keep them financially, you know. Again, we have one that’s due for an extension, and we’ve already kind of gotten to the planning stages about him already. So when you talk about adding another one, it’s like, well, alright, can you financially add another one? Because you want to add the other one on top of everything else that you have, and that makes it tough. “

Mike Green Clears the Air about Sexual Assault Allegations

Marshall edge rusher Mike Green spoke openly 2 at the NFL Scouting Combine about why he departed from Virginia in 2022. He denied two sexual assault allegations, insisting he has “done nothing wrong.” Green said he was “suspended” from Virginia before transferring to Marshall in 2023, where he led the FBS with 17 sacks in 2024 and and is rated by NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah as the No. 17 prospect in this year’s draft. Until now, he had never explained the reason for his exit from Virginia. “There’s accusations out there,” Mike Green said. “I’ve never been questioned. I’ve never been asked. You know what I’m saying? Like, nobody ever asked me a question about what happened before I departed from Virginia. It was just accusations that caused me to leave from there.” When asked about how many accusations he has faced, Green said there were two, one in high school and one “anonymous report” in college. “As you can see, throughout this process I’ve been rising higher and higher and higher,” he said. “That should tell you everything that you need to know. I’ve been sticking to the process, like I said earlier, and I’ve been telling the truth. I have no concerns and I have no problem with talking to these teams about it because I know who I am and I know the truth. “

Bills Sign WR Khalil Shakir to Four-Year, $60.2M Extension

Khalil Shakir’s performance in the 2024 season has earned him a hefty salary. The Buffalo Bills have agreed to extend his contract for another four years and pay him up to $60.2 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The Bills later announced the extension, which runs through the 2029 season and included a $32 million guaranteed payment. “You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone — fans, players — anyone in our building to say anything negative about Khalil and what he’s brought,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “The guy is a true lunch pail Buffalonian. I mean, I know he’s not from Buffalo but he doesn’t say anything, he just shows up everyday. He’s Mr. Dependable, and when the ball comes his way he usually comes down with it.”

Travis Kelce expected to return for 13th NFL season

It doesn’t seem like Travis Kelce is done yet. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is expected to return for his 13th NFL season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The news comes Chiefs GM Brett Veach’s comments at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he said Kelce is “fired up” about coming back. Kelce is already recognized as one of the greats and he’s set to break more records in 2025. “We left it as, he’d be back and we’re excited to get him back and get him going,” Veach told reporters. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also expressed confidence in a Travis Kelce return during a Tuesday inteview with NFL Senior National Columnist Judy Battista. “I think it will all work out. But I’m big on that, I’m big on stepping away,” Reid said. “I mean, Trav is positive. There’s no negative to it. But step back and get yourself away from it. … You just think clearer. We obviously hope he’s coming back. He’s been positive in that direction. We’ll cross all that here next week or so.”

Mahomes unconcerned with G.O.A.T. conversation: ‘I care more about the legacy of our team’

Patrick Mahomes is on his way to attaining G.O.A.T status, but he does not care for it, as he works towards helping the Kansas City Chiefs make history.  “No, I’m just trying to be the greatest Patrick Mahomes that I can be,” he said Monday from Super Bowl LIX Opening Night. “I mean, that’s obviously a goal of anyone’s, is to be the greatest at their profession, but in order to do that, you have to be the greatest that you can be every single day, and if that’s on the field and the work ethic I put in or off the field in the father and husband that I am, I’m gonna try to be the greatest in that way, and whenever I’m done with football, if I leave everything out there the way that I feel like I have so far, as far as effort and mentality, I’ll be happy with the results and I’ll let others talk about who the greatest is of whatever profession that is.” A Sunday win over the Philadelphia Eagles would make Mahomes the first quarterback in NFL history to lift four Lombardi Trophies before his 30th birthday.  Regardless of how the match turns out, he will join the likes of Tom Brady and John Elway as the only quarterbacks in league history to start five-plus Super Bowls. He will be the first to do so before he turns 30. Brady was 34; Elway was 38.  According to Mahomes, those numbers aren’t about him but about the Chiefs. Surpassing Brady as the GOAT, would just reflect the club’s power.  “I care more about the legacy of our team,” he said. “You know, we’ve put in so much work and worked so hard that I want to be remembered for the team that we are and the team that we built here in Kansas City. I never really think about my legacy; I think about all the guys that I’ve played with and how they’ve kind of left their imprint on this team and I want us to be remembered for that.” Kansas City have gotten their own share of haters since they started this race to become the first three-peat Super Bowl champions. He dismissed talks about him being a “villain” several times while speaking on Monday night. Mahomes stated that people hating winners is on them.  “I don’t even think it’s embracing being in the villains,” he said. “We embrace who we are, and we believe we play the game the right way. We believe that we play with a lot of heart and a lot of passion for the game and then we win football games. If winning football games makes you a villain, we’re gonna keep going out there and doing it.” The three-time Super Bowl MVP gets now what the New England Patriots went through during their decades-long run. He also understands all too well the bitterness of some fans toward a giant that seemingly can’t be slain. “It’s all fun because I was that guy. I was a Cowboys fan growing up, and I used to hate the Patriots,” he said. “I think more than anything, I appreciate the greatness of the Patriots more now when I see how hard it was to do what they did. But we just go out there and play the game that we love, the way that we feel like is the right way and all the other stuff is kind of outside noise. Hopefully we’re just giving people a great product to watch, and they can see the love for the game that we have.” Mahomes must continue to rack up victories if he wants to pass Brady. The Chiefs QB currently has 17 playoff wins (No. 2 all time) and three Super Bowl victories, well behind TB12’s 35 postseason wins and seven Lombardis. Beating the Eagles on Sunday, however, would get Mahomes much closer, much earlier in his career. It’s the longevity of Brady’s winning ways that Mahomes learns the most from the current G.O.A.T. “You know, as I’ve watched the greats, I think more than anything, it’s just to be able to win,” Mahomes said. “I know that sounds easy, but to be able to win with a team that’s around you is something that’s special and that the greatest do, and I think I learned that the most from Tom Brady. He did whatever it took to win the football game, and as a quarterback, that’s what you have to be and that’s what I’ve learned over my career.”
