Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg all business in pro debut

Cooper Flagg made his highly anticipated professional debut on Thursday night in the NBA 2K26 Summer League, helping the Dallas Mavericks edge out Bronny James and the Los Angeles Lakers in a tight 87-85 win. The No. 1 overall pick didn’t light up the stat sheet offensively, shooting just 5-for-21 from the field and 0-for-5 from three-point range, but he still left his mark on the game. Flagg posted 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block, showcasing his all-around impact and defensive instincts. His most critical contribution came late in the game when he blocked DJ Steward’s shot with just over a minute remaining. That key stop led to a go-ahead three-pointer by teammate Ryan Nembhard, sealing the win for Dallas. Speaking after the game, Flagg admitted his first pro outing wasn’t ideal. “I couldn’t really get into a rhythm,” he said. “It’s a different environment, obviously very different from college… I would say that might be one of the worst games in my life, but we got the win, that’s what really matters to me.” Despite his rough shooting night, Flagg’s confidence and intensity stood out. He walked into UNLV’s Thomas and Mack Center locked in, sporting full Mavericks gear and his signature white New Balance sneakers, focused and unfazed by the cameras and crowd.

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert Aims to ‘Win Another’ Super Bowl After Reworking Contract to Stay in Philadelphia

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has made it clear: he’s staying in Philly with one goal in mind: “win another” Super Bowl. After helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, Goedert faced the possibility of leaving the only NFL team he’s ever played for. But instead, he and the team reworked his contract in May 2025, allowing him to remain with the franchise. Speaking on ESPN’s NFL Live from Tight End University on Tuesday, Goedert explained why he chose to stay. “Yeah, so when I got drafted a year after they won the Super Bowl, I was able to experience the fun parts of a Super Bowl the year after winning the Super Bowl. After we won and the opportunity to run it back again to see the banner drop, it just wouldn’t have felt — it would have felt I was missing on a lot not being there to see all that stuff,” Goedert said. “I got a lot of love for the city of Philadelphia, the ownership all the way to the cooks in the building. I got a great relationship with all of them. So, I figured for me it was best to work out a deal, so I could stay there and be with the people I find that are important and try to win another one.” Head coach Nick Sirianni, fresh off the team’s emphatic Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs, made it clear he wanted to “run it back.” That message, along with Goedert’s deep connection to the organization, was enough to keep the veteran tight end committed.

‘Jacob was Jacob’: deGrom extends dominant run with another quality start

Thousands of fans packed Globe Life Field in white Jacob deGrom jerseys Tuesday night, as the Texas Rangers marked a jersey giveaway with their ace on the mound and he didn’t disappoint. DeGrom delivered yet another quality start, allowing two runs over six innings in a 10-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He struck out seven and walked one. “Of course, Jacob was Jacob,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “Just another terrific job. … This guy is special. Talk about a feeling of confidence with the team. I’ll keep saying it, I love watching him. You can feel it with the crowd. You can. Just a terrific job.” With Tuesday’s outing, deGrom extended his streak to 14 consecutive starts of pitching at least five innings and allowing two or fewer runs — the longest in Rangers franchise history (since 1961) and the longest in MLB this season. His ERA now sits at 2.13, a reflection of his sustained dominance. The only blemish was a two-out, two-run homer by Gary Sánchez in the fourth inning. DeGrom has now logged six straight quality starts, matching his longest streak since August–September 2022 with the Mets.

Buccaneers to debut original 1976 uniforms in 2025 home opener vs Jets

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will throw it back to their roots when they open their 50th NFL season. The team announced Tuesday that they will wear their original 1976 uniforms in the 2025 home opener against the New York Jets on Sunday, September 21. Tampa Bay has worn Creamsicle throwbacks in select games since 2009, but this marks the first time since 1976 that the Bucs will wear the exact design from their inaugural season. “The ’76 Jersey represents a piece of Buccaneers history and serves as a tribute to the generations of fans and players who shaped this franchise,” said COO Brian Ford. “As we launch into our 50th season, we’re proud to reintroduce The ’76 Jersey and the tradition it embodies.” The uniforms feature white jerseys with orange numbers and red outlines, paired with white pants, white helmets, and striped socks. The look also includes a special touch: “Hey! Hey! Tampa Bay!” stitched inside the collar — a nod to the team’s original fight song from 1979, the year Tampa earned its first winning season and playoff berth. The return of the original look is part of a broader celebration of the Bucs’ golden anniversary and the journey that began in 1976.

Bears TE Colston Loveland says shoulder recovery is ‘good’

Chicago Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland is staying optimistic about his shoulder recovery, but he admits the real test will come once training camp begins. “It’s been good. There haven’t really been live bullets flying yet. We’ll really know in camp once I get out there, doing a lot more stuff,” Loveland told Aaron McMann of MLive. last week at a youth football camp in Ann Arbor. Loveland is recovering from offseason AC joint surgery on his shoulder. He didn’t participate fully during the Bears’ offseason workouts but used that time to focus on the mental side of Ben Johnson’s offense. He was even spotted throwing with his left hand, hinting at ongoing caution with the injured shoulder. In June, Johnson said it was too early to predict if Loveland would be ready for training camp. With rookies set to report Saturday, July 19, the team will soon find out if Loveland can participate fully or needs a slower ramp-up. Chicago selected Loveland for his ability to stretch defenses and create mismatches. Whether he’s ready to do that right away remains to be seen.

Trevor Lawrence praises Travis Hunter as “one of the hardest-working guys” on Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is already impressed with rookie Travis Hunter, praising his work ethic and commitment just months into his NFL journey. “Travis has been great — just his work ethic, how he’s come in,” Lawrence said last week during the American Century Championship golf tournament, via WJXT’s Jamal St. Cyr.“He’s been one of the hardest-working guys we have. I think it’s commitment to learning the playbook and trying to learn the two systems. It’s a lot on a rookie, it’s challenging to learn everything and he’s done a nice job.” Hunter, known for his rare two-way talent as a cornerback and wide receiver, is trying to do what hasn’t been done in modern NFL history — play both sides of the ball consistently. Lawrence acknowledged the task is difficult but remains optimistic about Hunter’s potential. “We still have work to do and we’re going to get a lot done in training camp and get us ready to play come September. I’m really excited for him and how he can help our team.” Skeptics remain, including Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who recently pointed out how opponents will try to wear Hunter down. The demands of playing both offense and defense at the pro level, combined with the looming “rookie wall,” will test Hunter’s stamina and durability. Still, for now, the Jaguars appear all in on his versatility  and Lawrence is clearly a believer.

Xavier Worthy expects more deep plays in Chiefs offense: “Get your hamstrings ready”

Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy believes the Kansas City Chiefs are ready to bring back the deep shots that once defined their offense. During an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams”, Xavier Worthy shared what head coach Andy Reid told the team early in OTAs:“Coach Reid told us during OTAs Phase 1, ‘When you come back, get your hamstrings ready,’” Worthy said.“So, we kind of knew that we were going to be going a little deep during practice. We kind of got our bodies and our minds ready for what we’re going to be doing in practice.” Kansas City has won consistently in recent years but faced criticism for a less explosive offense. Since their 2019 Super Bowl win, they’ve remained a top team, reaching the Super Bowl five times in six seasons, but without the same highlight-reel plays that once defined them. Worthy, a first-round pick who ran a record-breaking 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine, could be the spark Reid and Patrick Mahomes need to stretch the field again.

Nick Sirianni Blasts Criticism of Jalen Hurts’ Role in Eagles’ Super Bowl Win

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn’t having any of the talk downplaying Jalen Hurts‘ contribution to Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX victory. Much of the spotlight has been on Saquon Barkley‘s 2,000-yard season and the Eagles’ dominant defense, but some critics have suggested that Hurts simply managed the offense rather than being a driving force behind the team’s success. Sirianni quickly shut that down. “Yeah,” Sirianni said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia.  “That’s bulls—.” Hurts’ 2024 season stats, 2,903 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, five interceptions, and 14 rushing touchdowns (many aided by the Eagles’ trademark Tush Push)—don’t jump off the page compared to other elite QBs. But Sirianni and many others point to the bigger picture: Hurts’ 46-20 regular season record and 6-3 mark in the postseason, including his Super Bowl win.
