MLS Matchday 5: Portland Timbers VS LA Galaxy Predictions

MLS has once again brought fans its offerings to keep them entertained this weekend. For Matchday 5 we’ll be seeing a lot of interesting games and Portland Timbers VS LA Galaxy is one of them. Portland is off to a weak start this season, last week Atlanta United defeated them. LA on the other hand found themselves in a 1-1 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps at home. Ahead of the game, MatchPlug has done this preview on Timbers and Galaxy. It has the Best Betting Tips Today and MLS Picks for you. Read: MLS Matchday 5: Real Salt Lake Vs St Louis City Predictions Predictions and Betting Preview for Portland Timbers VS LA Galaxy FC Matchday Game 5 Venue: Providence Park, Portland, Oregon When: Saturday, March 25, 2023 Time: 13:30 GMT Teams to play: Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy PICKS: SPREAD -1.5 Odds as provided by 1XBet and BetMGM. Betting On Portland Timbers 1XBet Spread: -1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Over 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.32 BetMGM Over/Under: Over 2.5 BetMGM Moneyline: 2.30 Coming back home after the terror they faced at the hands of Atlanta United provides some succour for the Portland Timbers. They started the season on a bad note, and if they don’t step up soon they’ll hit a dead end. After winning Kansas City on matchday 1, the Timbers proceeded to lose three consecutive games finishing 10th in the Western Conference with just 3 points. But the biggest challenge they face is that they are the only team in MLS that has allowed more goals, with 10 goals in the past 3 games. This record is something they’d want to improve on for today’s match vs LA Galaxy. It’s happening at their home field, where they lost their last 11 games and scored only 9 times in this span. Possible Lineup (5-3-2): David Bingham; Juan Mosquera, Dario Zuparic, Larrys Mabiala, Zac McGraw, Claudio Bravo; Cristhian Paredes, Eryk Williamson, Diego Chará, Santiago Moreno, Nathan Fogaça. Betting On LA Galaxy 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Under 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.915 BetMGM Over/Under: Under 2.5 BetMGM Moneyline: 2.90 The Los Angeles Galaxy like their opponents is struggling this season. In the first 3 games they played this year, they failed to make three out of three. When their matchday 1 game was suspended against LAFC because of weather conditions, Galaxy couldn’t find their game and now place 12th in the Western Conference with just two points. Los Angeles’ core weakness is the lack of goals, they lost 3-1 to FC Dallas, drew 0-0 in a road game to Kansas City, and held a 1-1 draw at home by Vancouver.  Additionally, Chicharito Hernández will be absent from today’s game and hasn’t played this year because of an injury. Douglas Costa was sent off against the Whitecaps too. But, Galaxy hopes today can get them off to a good start when they play on the road against the Timbers. They want to match the performance they had last year for their away matches. Los Angeles was the best club in MLS in this regard and lost just three of their last eight games. Possible Lineup (4-1-4-1): Jonathan Bond; Kelvin Leerdam, Jalen Neal, Chris Mavinga, Raheem Edwards; Gaston Brugman; Marco Delgado, Riqui Puig, Efrain Alvarez, Tyler Boyd; Dejan Joveljic. MatchPlug Prediction Although LA Galaxy’s offence seems to be absent this season, today’s game is their chance to bring some action against the Portland Timbers’ defence. Portland will not allow 5 goals again at home, but their current defensive problems won’t be solved by magic, especially since they’re playing against a club as tough as the Los Angeles Galaxy. Furthermore, consider that the Timbers have responded to attacks to an extent, scoring in all their matches, and in the head-to-head games between the two teams, both scored at least one goal in 14 matches of the last 20. arsenal returns to MLS all-stae

All-Star: Arsenal returns to a different MLS seven years later

The English Premier League leaders Arsenal will visit the District of Columbia as the honoured guests this summer to participate in the MLS All-Star Game presented by Target at Audi Field. It is right to reminisce a bit about the last time the London Giants played the league’s midsummer party. The Gunners have done this before. Then they were led by Arsene Wenger to San Jose for the 2016 edition of the ASG, to christen the Earthquake’s long-awaited new home, PayPal Park (known as Avaya Stadium back then). And as is their tradition, they forfeited a goal to Didier Drogba on their way to a good 2-1 win in front of 18,000 fans. Although 2016 has not been that long, things have changed. For starts, Arsenal will be meeting a different vintage of Major League Soccer than the one they met under the NorCal sunshine that July. Huge expansion Back in 2016, MLS had only 20 teams. Ground was yet to be broken at what is now the 2023 ASG venue, Audi Field, with D.C. United was still housed at an ancient RFK Stadium for longer. The dominating Seattle Sounders had not won an MLS Cup yet, let alone the CONCACAF Champions League, with barely a single MLSer in the semifinals that year, much less a winner. The reigning champions LAFC existed, but merely in manner of speaking. Chivas USA’s successor had their name and crest, but no coach, players or stadium yet. Minnesota United was completing their last season in the NASL, three years after the launching of the glittering Allianz Field. Atlanta United’s paradigm-shifting entry into MLS was still months away. Inter Miami, Nashville SC, Austin, Charlotte FC and St. Louis CITY SC – and all the sprawling investments that followed them – were merely dreams in the eyes of their respective founders. FC Cincinnati were only a few months into their inaugural season in the USL Championship, the beginning of their outstanding path to the top flight. There are 12 stadiums total, 10 of them soccer-first and more so in the manner of training facilities, academies, staff and other infrastructure. Hosting the 2026 World Cup on North American soil was an idea, too, years from reality. All these, promise valuable levels of stability and sustainability, like what Arsenal gained in relocating from their old Highbury home to the Emirates Stadium 17 years ago. The youth system takes shape In 2016, the U22 Initiative to trigger the influx of young talent into MLS was not in existence, neither was the Leagues Cup, MLS NEXT, or MLS NEXT Pro. Some clubs and coaches needed to be convinced that the homegrown pathway project was worth investing their time into, or that importing youths with rich sell-on potential was a profitable bet. Now, the league can play a Thiago Almada or Brenden Aaronson highlight reel to measure this change. The MLS adjusted its regulation to prime the pump. Clubs now keep more of the returns they get from outbound sales, especially on local players and can use more of their transfer earnings as allocation money. Today, the U22 Push incentives for acquiring blue-chip youngsters to an extent where they added extra Designated Player slots to the rosters of those who invest here. It is not a coincidence that the average age for squads has been reduced over the past seven years. Winter of 2015-2016, the number of MLS players sold for money to overseas clubs, was less than what it is now in 2021-22. The total income for those sales was far less too. A report by the Athletic over a year ago announced last winter’s sales as adding up to close to $65 million in total base fees. Now the search for the next top prospect is more eager than ever. The Quakes’ homegrown teen Cade Cowell is the player that draws the most crowd to PayPal Park these days. Cowell was merely 13 years old over in Ceres, California, still, two years eligible from joining the academy – when Arsenal played in what is now its home stadium. Today he’s got UEFA Champions League clubs watching his career and a huge seven-digit number bandied about as a possible price tag. Club America’s Alejandro Zendejas who is the USMNT’s latest dual-national recruit was the most noteworthy homegrown sale in the summer of ‘16 going from FC Dallas to Chivas Guadalajara for a reported fee of $500,000. Last year that same FCD set several records by selling Ricardo Pepi to Augsburg on a deal estimated to be around $20 million. A world of possibility Arsenal is versed in the player development department, having dabbled in the act once or twice themselves. Besides being owned by Stan Kroenke owner/investor of the Colorado Rapids since 2018, they presently have two Americans in their squad. Philadelphia Union alumni and ex-Rapid Austin Trusty is the other one, and the one now on loan at Birmingham City; goalkeeper Matt Turner, the Gunners’ most prominent North American representative is the other. Turner stopped the US men’s national team’s run to the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup after his multi-million dollar transfer from the New England Revolution to North London early in the year. Seven years ago he was unselected in the 2016 Super Draft and was set to spend his first professional season down at Richmond Kickers. His inspiring story, just like others, portrays MLS as a place anyone can shine. Turner did not play high-level competitive soccer until well into his teens – being able to go far and fast as he did in the following years or how someone like Cowell ended up in the sights of popular European clubs and the USMNT before he was old enough to rent a car, indicates an extraordinary speed of evolution. This is why this summer’s big game symbolises a long-time reconnection with the Old Continent. The last two years brought new cross-border spectacles in partnership with Liga MX, and with the expanded Leagues

Betting On FC Dallas 1XBet Spread: -1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Over 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.06 FC Dallas secured a priceless point during their visit to face the Whitecaps in Vancouver, thanks to the goal by Nigeria’s Sebastien Ibeagha, one of the team’s major powerhouses the current season. Ibeagha joined Dallas after playing for LAFC, the team won the league and cup last campaign. He is now just 3 games away from completing 100 games in his MLS career. In the two home games they’ve played, FC Dallas scored one win and one loss, with 3 goals scored and two given up. Possible Lineup: (4-3-3) Maarten Paes; Emmanuel Twumasi, Sebastien Ibeagha, Jose Antonio Martinez, Marco Farfan; Sebastian Lletget, Facundo Quignon, Paxton Pomykal; Paul Arrirola, Jesus Ferreira, Alan Velasco. Betting On Sporting Kansas City 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Under 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 3.5 Sporting Kansas City will be playing today’s game after two successive scoreless draws against LA Galaxy and Colorado Rapids, which indicates that the defense works perfectly, but their offensive power is lacking. To worsen the situation, some Kansas City players are wounded and exhausted. Tim Melia, Logan Ndenbe, Kortne Ford, Johnny Russel, Gadi Kinda, and Alan Pulido are the players having physical challenges. In two road games, Sporting had one draw and one loss, no goals scored and one conceded. Possible Lineup (4-4-2): John Pulskamp, Ben Sweat, Andreu Fontas, Robert Voloder, Graham Zusi; Daniel Salloi, Remi Walter, Roger Espinoza, Marinos Tzinos; Erik Thommy, William Agada. MatchPlug Prediction October 9 of the previous season was the last time these clubs met; during that match, FC Dallas won by a score of 2-1, with Sebastian Lletget, and Paul Arriola scoring goals for them, Graham Zusi scored a goal for Sporting Kansas City. Due to Kansas City’s offensive problems and likely player absences in this game, some experts are gravitating towards a win-by-minimum difference for FC Dallas. But, what do the sportsbooks have to say about this matchup? Find out in the odds we displayed. More From MLS: MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: Houston Dynamo VS Austin FC Predictions

MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: Houston Dynamo VS Austin FC Predictions

A unique matchup is scheduled between Houston Dynamo VS Austin FC; two Texan rivals. When compared to the past season, nothing much has changed for these clubs. While Austin’s confidence continues to improve, Houston began the season on the wrong footing and hasn’t won a game. Austin secured victories in the past 3 games against this team, so this is Dynmo’s shot to reap from this dominance. MatchPlug brings the Best Betting Tips Today and MLS Predictions for Houston and Austin, including possible lineups, predictions, and odds too. You can check out similar previews on other MLS matchday 3 matches you’ll find in this write-up. Related: MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: New England Revolution Vs Nashville FC Predictions Predictions and Betting Preview for Houston Dynamo VS Austin FC Venue: BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, Texas When: Saturday, March 18th, 2023 Time: 17:30 GMT Teams to play: Houston Dynamo and Austin FC MLS Picks: OVER 2.5 Odds as provided by 1XBet. Betting On Houston Dynamo 1XBet Spread: -1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Over 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.23 Houston Dynamo has been tagged as the Western Conference’s worst team after appearing for two games in this campaign. Besides CF Montreal and Charlotte, Dynamo is the other club that has lost every match it has played so far, making them the only ones without points on their record. Last season, they ended with a 1-3 loss to LA Galaxy, and now have three consecutive losses in all competitions; doomed to repeat the past. But, on the upside, Houston will have a chance this matchup to make its home debut. Their last home game was in five months and it’s been six months since their previous win, but maybe playing on their home field can boost their confidence. Possible Lineup (4-3-3): Steve Clark, Griffin Dorsey, Ethan Bartlow, Teenage Hadebe, Tate Schmitt, Héctor Herrera, Adalberto Carrasquilla, Artur; Corey Baird,  Porleifur Úlfarsson, Iván Franco. Betting On Austin FC 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Under 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 3.03 Austin FC had a fantastic season in 2022 and is maintaining that same performance this campaign. In spite of a 3-2 loss to St. Louis City, they have scaled through the subsequent matches, so they are entering this game with two successive victories. However, Austin has been dealt an emotional blow that could affect them for Houston Dynamo VS Austin FC, because while they won 2-0 against Violette in the CONCACAF Champions League, they were expelled in the round of 16 by a 3-2 aggregate score. That defeat they didn’t bargain for, but now, that loss will keep them focused on the local tournament. In the 3 MLS games, Austin FC has played, they’ve scored at least one goal in every match; with a total of 5 goals, the team has the 4th most goals in the Western Conference. Possible Lineup (4-2-3-1): Brad Stuver; Jon Gallagher, Alexander Ring, Leo Väisänen, Zan Kolmanic; Owen Wolff, Daniel Pereira Gil; Emiliano Rigoni, Sebastián Driussi, Ethan Finlay; Gyasi Zardes. MatchPlug Prediction As the home team, Houston Dynamo will be extended the courtesy of being the team expected to get its first win of the season in this game.  However, the head-to-head record reinforces an Austin supremacy of four wins in five games. No matter the winner, there is a chance that an Over will be covered. More From The MLS: MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: FC Dallas VS Sporting Kansas City Predictions

MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: New England Revolution Vs Nashville FC Predictions

MLS offers a befitting Eastern Conference duel which features New England Revolution VS Nashville FC, two tough teams under watchful eyes, intending to maintain the good form they have presently. This game is important for both sides because points will be deducted in the bid to reach the playoffs.  A game is afoot, and of course, MatchPlug has brought the Best Betting Tips Today and MLS Predictions for New England Revolution and Nashville FC. Plus, the picks, odds, and other information for this match. See: MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: Houston Dynamo VS Austin FC Predictions Predictions and Betting Preview for New England Revolution Vs Nashville FC  Venue: Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts When: Saturday, March 18th, 2023 Time: 16:30 GMT Teams to play: New England and Nashville. MLS Picks: TOTAL OVER 2.5 Odds provided by 1XBet and BetMGM. Betting On New England Revolution 1XBet Spread: -1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Over 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.395 BetMGM Over/Under: Over 2.5 Bet MGM Moneyline: 2.35 The New England Revolution got off the season with a perfect start. They registered two significant victories which placed them in a good position, however, they met the champions and lost their fire. Last game, they suffered a 4-10 defeat at the hands of LAFC. No doubt, that loss dampened their spirits, as it was the first time they played against a strong team and emerged from the game as losers. However, losing to Los Angeles wasn’t the most embarrassing part of the game: they shot just once and didn’t come up with any threatening moves. Furthermore, their defense failed the team, as New England was attacked at goal 18 times and, if not for the intervention of Dorde Petrovice, who made some great saves, they would have suffered a bigger loss. Possible Lineup (4-3-2-1): Dorde Petrovic; Brandon Bye, Henry Kessler, Dave Romney, DeJuan Jones; Latif Blessing, Matt Polster, Noel Buck; Gustavo Bou; Dylan Borrero, Bobby Wood. Betting On Nashville FC: 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Under 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.965 BetMGM Over/Under: Under 2.5 Bet MGM Moneyline: 2.95 Nashville FC remains unbeaten this season, spotting two wins and one draw against the New York Red Bulls. The team has a great performance and is practical because they make things easy for everyone. Nashville is described as cold and meticulous, with two victories that mirror each other. When playing NYFC, Nashville won 2-0, and they scored in the first half, dictating the pace of the game. Additionally, New York FC’s desperation to equalize the scores, caused Nashville to score the second goal in the 80th minute. The last game with Montreal was similar: they scored in the 37th minute and didn’t score a second goal until the 89th minute. Whenever Nashville FC is in the lead, it is difficult to stop them. Possible Lineup: (4-2-3-1): Joe Willis; Shaq Moore, Walker Zimmerman, Jack Maher, Daniel Lovitz; San Davis, Dax McCarthy, Fafa Picault, Hany Mukhtar, Jacob Shaffelburg, Teal Bunbury. MatchPlug Prediction New England is a little shaken up, while their opponent Nashville stays pragmatic and confident.  Experts believe that Nashville FC will win the New England Revolution in a way, New England won’t recover from or equalize.  More From MLS: MLS Matchday 4 Prediction: FC Dallas VS Sporting Kansas City Predictions

MLS Matchday 3 Prediction: Philadelphia Union VS Chicago Fire Predictions

As the MLS picks up pace, it keeps getting better. Philadelphia Union VS Chicago Fire is one of the interesting matches to come out of this progress. It holds on matchday 3 between two old soccer acquaintances in the United States. Philadelphia started on the right foot by scoring a home win in their first game of the 2023 season but fumbled this win by losing to Inter Miami. Chicago Fire on the other hand has a draw and intends to impress in their second match. Without wasting any more time, MatchPlug brings the Best Betting Tips Today and MLS Predictions for the Union and Fire match. We have analysis and other important information about the match too. Predictions and Betting Preview for Philadelphia Union VS Chicago Fire  Venue: Subaru Park, Chester, Pennsylvania When: Saturday, March 11th, 2023 Time: 16:30 GMT Teams to play: Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire MLS Picks: OVER 2.5 Odds as provided by 1XBet and BetMGM. Betting On The Philadelphia Union SC 1XBet Spread: – 1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Over 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 1.46 BetMGM Over/Under: Over 2.5 Bet MGM Moneyline: 1.44 Coached by Jim Curtin, the Philadelphia Union won fans over on the first MLS day with a 4-1 victory over Columbus Crew. But, in their last match with Inter Miami, they lost by a score of 2-0.  In spite of the result, the match was even, there were certain yellow cards, and Corentin Jean scored a goal first. This game with Chicago Fire is a chance for the Union to win its second game at home and start building on a season par with the last one, where it finished in first place in the Eastern Conference. Possible Lineup (4-4-2): Andre Blake; Olivier Mbaizo, Jakob Glesnes, Jack Elliot, Kai Wagner; Alejandro Bedoya, José Martínez, Leon Flach, Daniel Gazdag; Mikael Uhre, Julián Carranza. Betting On Chicago Fire 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Under 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 6.35 BetMGM Over/Under: Under 2.5 Bet MGM Moneyline: 6.25 The visiting team enters Philadelphia Union VS Chicago Fire, after a low-key start to the 2023 season. In their first match against New York City Football Club, Chicago drew 1-1 at home. They opened the scoring because of defensive errors on Gabriel Pereira’s accuracy. Later, Fabian Herbes scored from outside the box to tie the score. However, the team still couldn’t get on top of the scoreboard. This new opportunity is essential for the actualization of Ezra Hendrickson’s plan which incorporates a two-year process with almost the same group of players, thereby developing chemistry and an effective play style. Possible Lineup (4-5-1): Spencer Richey, Arnaud Souquet, Carlos Terán, Rafael Czichos, Miguel Navarro; Ían Torres, Federico Navarro, Brian Gutiérrez, Xherdan Shaqiri, Chris Mueller; Kacper Przybylko. MatchPlug Prediction For the match between Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire,  Philadelphia will collect all the points.  They’ve had a good start home, where they left a warm feeling. They lost to Inter Miami but showed they had what it takes to have a great MLS season. Chicago often plays well and is strong at home. Chicago still needs to find their rhythm and didn’t inspire confidence in their debut against New York City. Final Prediction: Philadelphia Union wins by 2 goals. MLS Matchday 3 Prediction: Toronto FC VS Columbus Crew Predictions

Toronto FC VS Columbus Crew is another game happening on matchday 3 of the 2023 MLS campaign, Saturday, March 11.  These teams have not had a good start to the season, and they won’t want to be defeated for the second game in a row. MLS Picks: MONEYLINE 2.06 Odds as provided by 1XBet and BetMGM. Betting On Toronto FC 1XBet Spread: -1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Over 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.06 BetMGM Over/Under: Over 2.5 Bet MGM Moneyline: 2.05 Toronto FC comes into matchday 3 hoping for their first win of the year. They lost 3-2 in the opening-day match against DC United, where they gave up two goals in stoppage time. Additionally, they drew 1-1 in their visit to Atlanta United on the last matchday after blowing their leverage. This is Toronto’s first home game of the season, a setup where they haven’t done very well lately, winning only two of their last 9 MLS appearances and most of their recent matches against Columbus Crew. If Toronto should have a positive outcome tomorrow it will be thanks to Federico Bernardeschi who scored in the first two games, twice after the break. Possible Lineup (4-2-3-1): Sean Johnson; Richie Laryea, Matt Hedges, Sigurd Rosted, Raoul Pedretta; Michael Bradley, Mark-Anthony Kaye; Brandon Servania, Federico Bernardeschi, Jonathan Osorio; Adama Diomande. Betting On Columbus Crew 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Over/Under: Under 2.5 1XBet Moneyline: 3.36 BetMGM Over/Under: Under 2.5 Bet MGM Moneyline: 3.30 Columbus Crew on the other hand came back from a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia Union on Matchday 1, by winning 2-0 over DC United in their last game, thanks to Lucas Zelarayan’s first-half brace. Besides the three points, the victory would have been satisfying for Wilfried Nancy’s defense, which broke a losing streak where they lost seven consecutive games, giving up goals. But, Crew’s offense has brought the team succour, as this was their 8th game in a row with a goal. They will now have a harder time securing a series of victories, which they haven’t done since the end of the 2021 campaign and the start of the 2022 season. To pull this off, they will have to break the jinx of losing their last eight home games. Possible Lineup (3-4-2-1): Eloy Room; Steven Moreira, Milos Degenek, Philip Quinton; Mohammed Farsi, Darlington Nagbe, Aidan Morris, Yaw Yeboah, Alexandru Matan, Cucho Hernandez; Lucas Zelarayan. MatchPlug Prediction Toronto FC showed promise in their early matches, with a good offense headed by Bernardeschi; but their poor defense is their Achilles Heel. This is a problem that Columbus Crew who also gave up goals, suffers from too. Four of the past 5 league meetings between these clubs scored three points. Taking account of the defensive shortcomings of Toronto and Columbus, and their good offensive play, fans can expect a high-scoring match, as the trend will continue.Final Prediction: Toronto Moneyline and Over. MLS 2023: What’s new? Soccer returns to St. Louis, old faces in new places, another playoff shake-up

Another MLS season has arrived and as usual, it is accompanied by changes. St. Louis City SC will make its debut. Players and managers made some off-season moves too. And a new campaign will not be complete if the league does not make any head-scratching moves for MLS 2023. These are the new developments as the MLS’ 28th season begins. St. Louis  MLS has not put forward the wrong foot in picking expansion markets. Each team has been met with considerable excitement and the national footprint looks robust now that 29 teams have accepted St. Louis City, the newest addition. When it comes to St. Louis, a bit of  “What took you so long?” enters the discussion. The City’s passion for soccer runs deep, with a booming grassroots soccer scene that has led many players to U.S. national teams dating back to the mid-20th century, with Becky Sauerbrunn and Tim Ream being two of the most recent. Guaranteed, it takes more than a passion for soccer to build an MLS team. Wealthy investors including a stadium are often needed to build up and run a team, and St. Louis had some near misses in terms of finding owners that will get it an MLS team. However, with an investor group headed by Carolyn Kindle, that has now been accomplished. And Citypark’s team’s 22,000-seater stadium is up and running from the get-go should help the organization start functioning. The inaugural season always comes with hiccups. Lutz Pfannenstiel the sporting director after featuring over 20 clubs in his playing career, put together a side void of big names, leaving that task to Bradley Carnell New York Red Bulls assistant (an former interim manager) to turn SLC into a cohesive unit. On that note, it feels right to have a top-flight team in the cradle of American soccer. View the official MLS 2023 Season Schedule. Old names, new places  The MLS off-season is when change-of-address forms are in demand, and so are moving companies, particularly with the League’s limited free agency form as part of the landscape. There are some players who wore different jerseys that will require some double-takes. Witnessing 2018 MLS MVP Josef Martinez in the Inter Miami CF colours will be hard to digest especially since he had a good spell at Atlanta United. The same sentiments will follow Aaron Long, who transferred from New York Red Bulls to LAFC.  Sean Johnson on his own part will try to change the fate of Toronto FC after leading New York City FC to an MLS Cup in 2021.  However, what could be described as the most surprising moves happened within the managerial ranks. Wilfred Nancy turned an impressive campaign with CF Montréal into a move to the Columbus Crew, breaking free from Joey Saputo’s overbearing ownership. Nancy was replaced with Hernan Losada, who was fired by D.C. Losada last season due to his obsessive methods regarding weight, amongst other things, he imposed on players.  Losada will have to make the best out of a bad situation for the MLS 2023 with CFM after its roster was basically stripped. On D.C. United, Ben Olsen had moved to Houston Dynamo as a way to bring back the team’s glory days of the mid-2000s, when they won consecutive MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007. Former FC Dallas manager Luchi Gonzalez joined the San Jose Earthquakes after spending the last few years in the U.S. men’s national team setup. And some brand new faces, too MLS mines the international transfer market for reinforcements, and with one or two exceptions, they did not keep too much in their pockets. However this could change if Lionel Messi goes ahead to sign with Inter Miami, but other than this, most of the newcomers are of a strategic variety. One team that did not make too many financial moves was the Portland Timbers, who spent a $10 million transfer fee on FC Midtjylland midfielder Evander. The Brazilian has been compared to MVP Hany Mukhtar of the Nashville SC. If he can live up to Mukhtar’s influence, it could boost the Timbers’ chances of getting back into the postseason. Other notable additions for the MLS 2023 season are D.C. United’s Mateusz Klich a former player for Leeds United, including ex-Racing Club midfielder Enzo Copetti, who will join Charlotte FC. Copetti will be assisted by Ashley Westwood former Aston Villa and Burnley midfielder. Belgian striker Dante Vanzeir will try to score goals for the New York Red Bulls, netting 29 times in 67 senior appearances in a bit more than two seasons for Union Saint-Gilloise. For the defensive side, Inter Miami brought former Shakhtar Donetsk centre-back Serhiy Kryvtsov to man that part of the field for the Herons. Finland international Leo Vaisanen will do the same for Austin FC, after Ruben Gabrielsen’s departure. Postseason format debacle  18 teams will now qualify for the revamped postseason which is an increase from last year’s 14 – and the rounds will be mainly single-elimination. The first set of games will be play-in games where the No. 8 and No.9 seeds square off. The next round will witness the other teams join in for a best-of-three series. Every game will have a winner. The format will go back to single elimination for the conference semifinals, conference final and MLS Cup. Although the league contends that this change has been talked about since 2021 and is not being influenced by its new broadcast rights deal with Apple, according to the Athletic’s report last fall that the decision was fuelled a part passion to have more postseason games available on Apple TV than last year’s 13. There will now be as low as 25 games and many as 33.  There is also the desire on the part of MLS owners to host at least one playoff game, to gather more revenue for the League. The solution provided by the MLS lacks consistency in terms of format from round to round, and with 18 teams qualifying for
