Wrexham’s rise through the English football leagues continues, with the club now just one promotion away from reaching the Premier League. Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the North Wales club four years ago with what seemed like an ambitious goal. Now, after a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Saturday, that dream is closer than ever. The win secured Wrexham’s third straight promotion, earning them a place in the Championship next season. Reynolds, speaking to Sky Sports, reflected on their journey: “It just seemed like an impossible dream, and we do what we’re lucky to do is be storytellers.”   He added, “We were standing there doing a press conference four years ago, and said our goal is to make it to the Premier League. And there was understandably a lot of titters and laughter and giggles, but it starts to feel like a real, tangible thing that could actually come to fruition in this moment.” Wrexham’s success story has captured attention around the world. The club’s transformation from a struggling non-league side to Championship contenders has made headlines in both the UK and North America. Asked about being just one step away from the Premier League, McElhenney said: “Well, that’s for tomorrow to think about. Today is just enjoying the moment. We could probably wait until 12:01.” Reynolds joked back: “We have to wait ’til tomorrow? I’ll erase the whiteboard I put up at half-time.” Unlike many celebrity owners who take a hands-off approach, Reynolds and McElhenney have been heavily involved in the club’s day-to-day life. Their commitment (and their dream)has helped lift Wrexham to new heights.

Juventus climbed into the Serie A top four with a 2-0 win over struggling Monza, despite playing the second half with 10 men. After a midweek defeat to Parma, Juve responded quickly at the Allianz Stadium. Nicolas Gonzalez opened the scoring just 11 minutes in with a stunning long-range strike. Randal Kolo Muani made it 2-0 just past the half-hour mark, slotting home his first goal since February. Kenan Yildiz was sent off in first-half stoppage time after a VAR review showed he elbowed Alessandro Bianco, but Juve stayed in control. Gonzalez nearly added a third early in the second half, forcing a good save from Stefano Turati. Monza had more of the ball after the red card but failed to create real chances, highlighting their struggles in front of goal. Juventus have now won seven of their last eight home league games.

AC Milan secured a crucial 2-0 win over Venezia at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo, their fifth consecutive victory over the hosts, keeping their top-six hopes alive in Serie A. Venezia started strong, but Milan struck early. After winning the ball high up the pitch, Youssouf Fofana  delivered a perfect pass to Christian Pulisic, who calmly scored the opening goal after just four minutes.

Jack Grealish will not be allowed to leave Manchester City on loan this summer, despite growing interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham, according to talkSPORT. City are unwilling to weaken their squad with a temporary move and believe no club would meet the £100 million fee they paid for the winger in 2021.  Although manager Pep Guardiola no longer sees Grealish as essential to his plans, any move is now likely to be permanent. His chances of regular game time next season remain slim. Former Villa scout Bryan King told Villa News  that Grealish still feels connected to the Midlands.   “Grealish will return to the Midlands,” King said. “It is fine for him to be living where he is living at the moment. However, his home is the Midlands. I could see him going back to Villa… if there was going to be a deal concerning Rogers, I would think he would be part of it.” With Marcus Rashford reportedly out for the rest of the season, Villa manager Unai Emery may see Grealish as a more affordable option than triggering Rashford’s £40 million clause. Grealish, who scored 32 goals in 212 appearances for Villa, is expected to be one of the most talked-about names in the summer transfer window.

Harry Kane has hit out at the yellow card he received on Saturday, which will force him to miss Bayern Munich’s potential title-clincher against RB Leipzig. Kane was booked late in the first half of Bayern’s 3-0 win over Mainz, a result that brought them within one win of the Bundesliga title. The booking was his fifth of the league season, triggering an automatic suspension for next weekend’s clash in Leipzig. The 31-year-old, still chasing the first major team trophy of his career, was furious after the match.   “It’s a crazy, crazy decision. It’s never ever a yellow card,” Kane said. “Unfortunately, sometimes people come to the Allianz and try and make a name for themselves,” he added, referencing referee Bastian Dankert. Kane also questioned the Bundesliga’s system for yellow card accumulation, which counts bookings across the entire season.   “They should have a reset like the Premier League, where halfway through the season it resets. I’m missing a big game because I got a yellow card in the first game of the season. It hurts, it stings.” Despite his absence, Bayern can still clinch the title with a win at Leipzig next week.
