China’s quest to get among the superpowers of Asian football came up short in the last FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign as they finished 5th to Iran, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and Syria. They did, however, manage to show some good form in the latter stages of that qualifying campaign with wins over Uzbekistan and South Korea, but they still have a long way to go in terms of getting among the big boys of Asian and world football. They are without a win since their last world cup qualifier against Qatar, in that time they have drawn against North Korea and South Korea, lost to Colombia, Serbia and Japan, they would be looking to frustrate Ryan Giggs’ Wales as he makes his managerial debut here. Wales were the surprise package of Euro 2016 as they reached the semifinal when other bigger nations like England failed to even get beyond the group stage. However, they could not follow that achievement with a world cup qualification and this led to Chris Coleman resigning to take charge of Sunderland. They lost just one game in the world cup qualifying series but drew five of their opening six games. They lost their first post-world cup qualifying friendly to France, before drawing with Panama ahead of this game.
Panama would be competing in their first ever FIFA World Cup in Russia later this year, this feat was achieved thanks to an 88th-minute winner by Seattle Saunders’ Román Torres in their game against Costa Rica. Despite being one of the smallest nations in the world in terms of footballing pedigree, Panama showed some class during the last World Cup qualifiers as they won against Costa Rica and secured impressive draws against Honduras and USA, they would now look to cause some upset when the World Cup finally gets underway in Russia. Denmark needed to go through the playoffs to secure a place in Russia 2018, but the Scandinavian nations did not struggle to win their playoff game against the Republic of Ireland as they won the return leg 5-1. With the likes of Sisto Pistone, Yusouf Poulsen, and Christian Eriksen in their ranks, Denmark would be considered favourites in this game, but Panama should not be underrated as they showed in their 1-1 draw against Wales in the last round of friendly games. Although they boast some of the best-attacking talents in Europe, Denmark are not so remarkable defensively as they have conceded at least a goal in each of their last three games.
Morecambe have defied the odds somehow this season as they were expected to have already be relegated by this stage of the season by many watchers. The situation as bad as first thought for them at the moment, but they still have work to do to get to where they would love to be. With Colchester not in their best shape at the moment, Morecambe have the chance to help themselves become more stable on the league table. However, they have collected just 22 points at home this season and they would have to do better than some of their previous home matches to get the better of their visitors. Colchester’s hopes of winning a spot at the end of season’s playoff seems to be off now as they head into this game without a win in 4 attempts. They also netted just once in that run of 4 games, however, they have lost to nil in only 17% of their away matches this season and they could get back to form in this game. Their last 3 head to head clashes have ended in stalemates, with the last match ending in a 0-0 draw.
The season has reached a point where every point is very important to every team regardless of whether you are chasing promotion or trying to avoid relegation. These two sides are chasing the three points at stake here for many different reasons. Port Vale are not in their best form at the moment if you judge them by their league standing and the fact that they have no wins from their last 12 games, however, their recent home form has been solid as they head into this game having claimed a point in each of their last 5 home games. Their current struggle is mainly down to their inability to kill off their games as both teams have netted in 8 of their last 10 games. Exeter has also been playing with both teams to score outcomes as both teams have netted in 67% of their away games this season. This is the outstanding the have over their other promotion rivals and they would be looking to claim all the points here. They have a poor record against their host having 25 and won 16 of their previous meetings.

Villarreal have been one of the teams that does not like getting beat up Atletico over the past few seasons, but this season has seen a huge gap in terms of quality and Atleti could easily take all three points from this game. The Yellow Submarines are not on their best form at the moment as they have only 2 wins from their last 9 games in all competitions, however, their 2-0 win at Las Palmas last weekend would have boosted their morale ahead of this game. They would now hope to at least finish in a European place at the end of the season. They have not been so good defensively this season with only 3 clean sheets from their last 15 games. They are unbeaten in their last 5 games against Atleti. The visitors have to get a win here if they want to close the 8 points gap between them and Barcelona with 10 games left to play. They, however, come into this on a good run of form. Their 5-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia in midweek means they have won 11 of their last 12 games, the only loss being to Barcelona. They responded well to that loss by winning their last three games on the spin, scoring at least three goals in those games. Both teams have netted in 4 of their last 6 games on the road.
