Real Madrid to chose between Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe next year

Real Madrid will reportedly choose between signing Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the summer of 2024. Los Blancos have been long-time admirers of French superstar Mbappe and narrowly missed out on him last summer after he chose to sign a two-year contract extension with PSG. But according to French publication L’Equipe, the 24-year-old’s contract at Parc des Princes will end in the summer of 2024 as he is increasingly unlikely to trigger the option of extending his deal by another 12 months – which he must do by the end of July.  This means that Mbappe will be available for free next summer, which could entice Real Madrid. Read more: AC  Milan INTERESTED in Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun Despite this, L’Equipe are reporting that Los Blancos are also keeping tabs on Manchester City star striker Erling Haaland and might attempt to sign him. In addition, Madrid expects Karim Benzema to sign a one-year extension soon, with the Frenchman expected to leave at the end of the 2023-24 season to make way for a new superstar signing. Meanwhile, if Kylian Mbappe decides to sign for Real Madrid, he must take a significant pay cut to seal the move. Moreover, he might be required to play more centrally as Vinicius Jr. is currently the number one choice on the left wing.

According to 90min, the Dutchman has emerged as the front-runner to become Tottenham’s next permanent manager after a successful season in Feyenoord, whom he led to the Eredivisie title. But to complete the deal for Slot, Tottenham must agree a compensation fee with Feyenoord. A reported £6million compensation package had been quoted for the manager and his two assistants. However, according to the report, talks between the two clubs and Slot’s agent Rafaela Pimenta around the compensation amount are set to accelerate this week. Meanwhile, Spurs are interested in former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique and recently sacked Julian Nagelsmann. Sporting CP boss Ruben Almiron is also on the list of targets.

Newcastle QUALIFY for next season’s Champions League

Newcastle United have officially booked their place in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League after a goalless draw with Leicester City on Monday. The Magpies began this season as one of the clubs expected to challenge for a place in Europe after heavy investment in the last three windows.  But they were not expected to crash into the top four given the quality of the traditional top four regulars Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and, to some extent, Arsenal and Tottenham.  Read more: Arsenal join Barcelona in the race for Ilkay Gundogan  However, the Magpies have not only crashed the top four party but have done so in style, sealing their place in the Champions League for the first time in over two decades with a game to spare. After the game, manager Eddie Howe stated that a top-four finish was never his team’s aim when the season began.  “The target wasn’t the top four,” said Howe.  “You always hope, but we didn’t feel we were ready for that. It was more, ‘Could we not have that flirtation with relegation’. “So it’s a big relief and an amazing night to see the supporters and the reaction to what we’ve achieved.”

Frenkie de Jong speaks on relationship with Joan Laporta amid Manchester United interest

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has insisted that while his relationship with club president Joan Laporta is good, the two did have a ‘situation’ last summer. De Jong was close to leaving Barcelona last summer after he was subject to heavy interest from former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who had just become Manchester United that summer.  United were willing to meet Barcelona’s lofty asking price. However, De Jong’s deferred wages from previous years proved a major stumbling block as the Dutchman demanded he be paid them in full before he will agree to leave the club.  Read more: Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard in line for a new contract  That situation resulted in a clash between De Jong and Laporta. The Barcelona chief consistently said in public that he wanted the midfielder to remain at Camp Nou. Still, behind the scenes, he was open to selling the Dutchman given Barca’s financial woes.  Speaking to Ziggo Sport Voetbal in his native Netherlands, De Jong opened up on his relationship with Laporta. “My relationship with the president is good. In reality, it has never been bad,” De Jong said. “Of course, there was this situation last summer, but my relationship with him is good.” De Jong also spoke about the potential return of Lionel Messi to Camp Nou. “Messi is a fantastic player. It would be amazing if he comes back,” De Jong said.  “But I don’t know if it’s going to happen.”

Erling Haaland’s agent COY on striker’s future amid rumours on ‘mystery’ Man City release clause

Erling Haaland’s agent has refused to clarify the status of the release clause in the Manchester City striker’s contract. The Norwegian superstar joined Man City last summer in a huge deal that makes him the highest-paid player in the Premier League when add-ons and bonuses are factored in. The contract also included a bumper release clause. However, Pep Guardiola’s recent contract extension reportedly triggered a change in Halaand’s terms at the Etihad, perhaps even removing it altogether. Read more: Atletico Madrid want another Barcelona veteran: Jordi Alaba linked with a move to Wanda Metropolitano  However, when asked to give updates about Haaland’s future, the 22-year-old’s agent Rafaela Pimenta, remained coy and, if anything, fuelled the uncertainty surrounding his future. “I have nothing to clarify,” she told Mundo Deportivo via 90min. “The mystery of this story is very cute because you don’t know where it is, like a treasure chest. Anyway, as a lawyer, I can’t reveal the details of contracts.” Haaland is reportedly interested in testing himself across Europe, with Real Madrid keen to sign him down the line. “[Haaland can go] wherever he wants,” Pimenta continued. “He is a player that has never been seen before. “For me, his quality in everything and his ability to evolve are very impressive. He is capable of adapting quickly to a new club, new city, new coach… it’s as if he has always been there. That gives you a lot of peace of mind and allows you to move forward. “He is very calm in his professional and personal life, he has the quality. Today, he is in the right place, with the right team and the right coach. “In Brazil, we say that the sky is the limit. I think he is going to break all the records.” Pimenta, refused to say whether Haaland would ever play in La Liga, instead she spoke about her relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. “Strangely, I have only spoken with Florentino once in my life,” she said. “I cannot explain the reason, but above all I have a good relationship of great respect and admiration with Jose Angel Sanchez and Juni Calafat. They are serious, humble people and I think they do a great job for Madrid.”
