Schuster: Real Madrid suffering for not replacing Kroos

Ex- Real Madrid player and coach Bernd Schuster says Kylian Mbappe should not be blamed solely for Real’s inconsistent start to the year. Instead he feels that the team not replacing Toni Kroos is part of the reason for their recent struggles.  Mbappe has played well since joining from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, although many people have expected more from him.  Schuster while speaking at a golf event on Saturday said: “Sometimes people like him come in with a lot of quality. Normally it’s easier for them, but sometimes it’s a bit difficult. I think it’s a question of matches. He knows what he has to do, it’s a question of time. The whole team has to change a bit, not just him. “In the team, right now there is no one there (to replace Toni Kroos). He was the last one. He has marked 10 years at Real Madrid with the way of playing. His solidity was only his and that cannot be replaced. There is no one there now and we have to find a formula for things to work the same way. “There will not be another like him because he has marked an era and this cannot be changed in two months.”

Paul George makes 23 points in preseason debut with Philadelphia

Paul George displayed his scoring touch in his preseason debut for the Philadelphia 76ers last Friday night.  George made 8-for-15 and scored a 76ers-high 23 points in a 121-11 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves.  He logged 26 minutes, hit four 3-pointers and included six rebounds and two assists.  His exhibition debut features new faces in new positions during this year’s preseason, including Karl-Anthony Towns with the Knicks, Chris Paul in the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan in Kings, and Klay Thompson in Mavericks jersey.  The 76ers signed George to a four-year, $212 million deal as a free agent this summer, they are his fourth team, after he spent seven years with the Indianapolis Colts, two with Oklahoma City Thunder and last five with the Los Angeles Clippers. He won the All-Star nine times, is a six-time All-NBA selection and averages 20.8 points over his first 14 NBA seasons.  The match in Iowa was a homecoming for Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse. Nurse is an Iowa native, who coached Minnesota’s G League team when it was Iowa. He is the former head coach at NAIA member Grand View University situated in Des Moines. Nurse was the youngest college coach in the USA when he started the job at 23.

reddick refused one year contract from new york jets amid holdout

Reddick refused one-year contract from New York Jets amid holdout

The New York Jets’ ongoing quarrel with Haason Reddick got wild last week when the star pass rusher’s agency dropped him. It was the newest unusual event in an event that became continually odd.  The saga does not seem to be ending any time soon.  However, there was a point early in the year when it seemed Reddick would end his holdout with a reevaluated one-year contract that would have pacified him.  The deal was all but finalized with the player’s former agents at CAA and Jets management. Reddick, owes millions of dollars in fines, but got an offer that would have given him the chance to pay those fines and still earn more money that he was already slated to earn.  The parties involved expected a peaceful resolution that would allow him to play New York and make his money back. He would cash out again this offseason with a big 2024 in a defense coaches thought is ideal for him. But, Reddick refused to sign the deal.  New York had no other option than to move on and hope he shows. Reddrick did not want to come in.  Instead, Haason wanted a multi-year contract that would make him one of the higher-paid pass rushers in the league. It seems that there is  presently no market for that type of deal.  Reddrick was set to make $14.25 million this term. But when the Jets traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for him, he wanted a multi-year contract. They instead opted for a one-year solution, with the pass rusher playing it out and becoming a free agent in 2025.  Currently, Haason is the only player holding out, and he must show up Week 13 to get an accrued season. If not, his contract will tank and everyone will go through the same issue next season.  He could also walk away from the game, maintain his principles.  Last week, club owner Woody Johnson, pleaded with Reddrick to come in.  “Haason, get in your car, drive down (I)-95 and come to the New York Jets, and we can meet you and give you an escort right in the building and you’ll fit right in,” Johnson said. “You’re going to love it here and you’re going to feel welcome and you’re going to accomplish great things with us.” When asked to summarize the issue, Johnson said, “This is something I’ve never seen before, you know, and you’ve got even more years than I have. I don’t think any of us have seen anything like this. I think you have to be part psychologist and part some-other gist to try and figure out what is actually going on.” He said Reddick would be received with open arms if and when he shows up.

dr. meister proposes progressive mlb rule change to prevent pitching injuries

Dr. Meister proposes progressive MLB rule change to prevent pitching injuries

Texas Rangers’ head physician Dr. Keith Meister says he has a revolutionary rule change that can improve pitcher health: outlawing two-strike foul balls. Dr. Meister, who is part of Major League Baseball’s task force, revealed his idea as part of an extensive feature story, shared with Mike Piellucci, the sports editor of D Magazine. This is how Piellucci interpreted the doctor’s idea: “If he’s losing the battle, he’s refusing to concede ground. He serves on an MLB task force investigating the injury epidemic, and he has proposed a rule to ban foul balls on two-strike counts, which would amount to the most dramatic change in how the game is played in decades. At first blush, it seems outlandish, then much less so as he bores into its potential to cut down pitch counts, push hitters to put more balls in play, and shorten games in one swoop.” Piellucci believes that Dr. Meister’s idea would make two-strike foul balls strikeouts. This was how the league handles two-strike bunt attempts.  Based on what the doctor is proposing, removing extended at-bats would reduce pitch count and match times across the board. It would also cut down the amount of some pitch types thrown. Dr. Meister faulted “designer pitches,’’ like sweeper and hard changeup, for the increase in injuries; these pitches are often released when a K is on the line.  The MLB threw over 30% breaking balls in two-strike counts this season, in contrast to 21% in no strike counts and 24.2 in one-strike counts.  Banning two-strike fouls would significantly change the game in many ways, and as such that type of rule would not even be considered.  Furthermore, most foul balls are not caused by intent or strategy. There are some hitters who can spoil hard pitches, but they are the exception instead of the rule. It is unreasonable to think that fouls are due to intentional swings rather than just mistakes. And that rule would punish hitters. Plus there would be too many of such offenses if Meister’s rule is implemented.  On the other hand, pitchers might love the rule, not because it prevents injuries, but because it would make their jobs easier.  That is why it is not surprising to hear Dr Meister say: “I’ve even got Max Scherzer saying, ‘You know, that’s not such a bad idea.’ And Max doesn’t agree with anything.”

NFL PREDICTIONS: New England Patriots VS Houston Texans betting Tips

The New England Patriots will host the Houston Texans tonight in an AFC Patriots VS Texans clash at the Gillette Stadium.  To get NFL predictions for Patriots VS Texans, you can visit MatchPlug. We are one of the Best sports betting sites to get picks, odds, and previews for all NFL games.  Predictions And Betting Preview For New England Patriots VS Houston Texans Odds as seen on 1XBet. Betting On The New England Patriots  The New England Patriots started the year with low expectations, but after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in week one, fans believed they could thrive in the AFC East. Since that opener, the Patriots have lost four consecutive matches. While the defense has sustained them, the offense continues to disappoint the team. The division continues to elude them, but their schedule should be free after this match.  All eyes will be on New England’ starting quarterback for this match, as Drake Maye continues to cover ground, especially as they continue to struggle. The Patriots are eighth in the NFL in rushing and ninth position in yards per rush, two aspects that can help them control this match. With their weak defense and inability to move the ball, if they lose here, they’ll struggle to recover.  Betting On The Houston Texans  After a come-back last season, the Houston Texans have maintained that energy by appearing to be the favorites in the AFC South this campaign. They have lost to the Minnesota Vikings, which looks like a good loss for them, while winning consecutive matches and four of five. Away matches have been challenging for the Texans and this season they are 1-1, with the lone victory coming by two points against the Indianapolis Colts.  Houston’s offense unit is 6th in the NFL in total yards and against a Patriots’ defense that is struggling, they should play well. The Texans ground game has been tough, considering all the injuries, but with the NFL’s top passing attack, it shouldn’t stop them here. In terms of defense, they’ll be up against one of the worst offenses in the league. Given their ability to pressure the QB and New England’s weak offensive line, Houston should control both sides of this game.  MatchPlug Prediction For New England Patriots VS Houston Texans  The Patriots will have a hard time winning a fit Texans side, and due to this, Houston is expected to control this match. New England has covered the spread one time this campaign, as they continue to struggle tonight.  Final Prediction: Houston Texans -6.5.

NFL PREDICTIONS: Chicago Bears VS Jacksonville Jaguars betting Tips

The Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars will play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today. Chicago are 3-2 behind quarterback Caleb Williams, but won the Carolina Panthers 36-10 last week. Predictions And Betting Preview For Chicago Bears  VS Jacksonville Jaguars  Odds provided by 1XBet. Betting On The Chicago Bears The Chicago Bears were one of the preseason favorites to compete for a playoff spot this campaign. They signed some top veterans and hosted a draft bounty that included NO.1 overall pick, QB Caleb Williams. After a slow start to the season, The Bears seem to be living up to expectations. Last week Sunday, they won 36-10 over the Carolina Panthers to advance to 3-2 on the term.  Chicago will visit London fresh off a two-game winning streak and Williams making a hot play. They are 26th in total defense so far on the season. The Bears are also last in NFL rushing and 25th in passing. However, with Caleb at the lead, they are a strong 11th in the NFL in turning red zone chances into touchdowns. Their defense has been excellent so far in 2024.  Betting On The Jacksonville Jaguars  The Jacksonville Jaguars won Indianapolis last week Sunday to end a four-game skid start to the season and Trevor Lawrence’s nine-game losing streak as a starting quarterback. Cam Little scored a 49-yard field goal with 17 seconds on the clock that turned things around. It have the Jaguars their 10 consecutive win over the Colts at home.  Jacksonville are used to traveling to London, with today’s trip being their 11th one. This should give them some advantage over the Bears. The Jaguars enter this matchup with their offense placing 15th in the league. They are second on the ground and only 22nd through the air. Jacksonville are only 24th in the league in converting red-zone chances into touchdowns. In defense, they rank 31st in the NFL  MatchPlug Prediction For Chicago Bears  VS Jacksonville Jaguars  The Chicago Bears have a ferocious defense which has caused several turnovers, ranking 4th in the league in turnover margin. The Jacksonville Jaguars may play without rusher Etienne Jr. which could harm them in running and passing matches. Williams will grow more comfortable in his role here and the Bears will take home a third straight win.  Final Prediction: Chicago Bears -1.5.

hildeby shines bright as maple leafs deny ex-coach Keefe

Hildeby shines bright as Maple Leafs deny ex-coach Keefe

Last Thursday night, a thunderous cheer erupted from the Toronto Maple Leafs dressing room. They were not cheering because they had just defeated former coach Sheldon Keefe and the New Jersey Devils, but it was all for Dennis Hildeby. Rookie goalie Hildeby had made the biggest impact in winning the Devils.  When questioned about the cheers honoring him after he led his team to a 4-2 win against the Devils, in his first NHL game, Hildeby smiled.  “It was good. There was a lot of noise,” he said. “Just trying to get in my seat. “Honestly, it’s a good feeling. Better than quiet.” This was a turn out that few people would be able to predict. Heading into the match, the results were straightforward.  If the Maple Leafs were victorious, it would be because of stars like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marne, two players Keefe depended on when he was coach from 2019-24, a time when the team went 212-97-40 during the regular season.  New Jersey winning would have been the perfect revenge for Keefe, who Toronto fired on May 9, after they failed to win a Stanley Cup Playoff series for the fourth time in his five campaigns.  Instead, in a surprising turn of events, Hildeby ruined Sheldon’s chances at a lick back with a strong 23-save delivery that left the crowd at Prudential Center disappointed in the Devils’ home opener.  The rookie goalie was a backup last season when Keefe was still coach but he never featured in an NHL match.  “I was in their meetings and watched a few clips of him with them,” Keefe said. “They were excited about him, and they were even more excited when he was still available and we took him.” Toronto drafted him from Järfälla, Sweden, in the fourth round (No. 122) in 2022, then watched him grow. In 41 matches with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League last campaign, Hildeby was 21-11-7 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.  When No. 1 goalie Joseph Woll complained of lower-body tightness after practice on Tuesday, Hildeby was called up on an emergency basis to back up Anthony Stolarz, who started the Maple Leafs’ season-opening 1-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. On Thursday, it was time for Hildeby to make his NHL debut. He said he only texted his euphoric parents over in Sweden rather than talk to them because it would have “messed up my head.” Judging by his performance, his plan worked. “Honestly, there were a lot of emotions for me to handle,” Hildeby said about being told on Wednesday that he’d be starting. “Try to make it just another game and enjoy it as much as possible. But it was a little back and forth trying to handle it, not getting too emotional.” Hildeby’s teams certainly were when discussing his performance. Forward Steven Lorentz took it a step further, describing him as “The Beast.” Keefe had a slightly different opinion about the goaltender.  “Big guy,” he said. “The puck hits him a lot. An awful lot.” It definitely did on that night, much to Keefe’s dismay. As for playing his former team for the first time, one thing was clear for him. “No emotions for me in the game,” Keefe said. “It’s a little odd standing back there and the colors. I’m still adjusting to the red, and the blue-and-white is back again. “We are just trying to build our game. The opponent had a big say in the game tonight but that was nowhere good enough.” The most frustrating part was that New Jersey held Matthews, Marner and William Nylander off the score sheet and still lost, ruining Keefe’s night. “I think we wanted that for him and it hurts even more not to be able to do it,” Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton said. Especially when a kid making his NHL debut proved to be the spoiler.

3-time nba champion danny green announces retirement

3-time NBA champion, Danny Green, announces retirement

Danny Green announced his retirement from the NBA on Thursday. He was the sharpshooting point guard who won an NCAA championship at North Carolina before assisting three NBA teams in winning NBA championships.  Green won NBA titles with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, Toronto in 2019, and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, and was a starter for all three teams. He averaged 8.7 points over 15 pro campaigns.  “I’m officially moving on from the game of basketball and the NBA,” Green said on his YouTube channel. “It’s been a great run. I’m very proud to be able to walk away from the game. I’m at peace with it. I wasn’t at first, but I think it’s one of those things — once I turned 37, the body started reacting a little differently.” Green is retiring with a record of 1,577 3-pointers, 43rd-most in NBA history. He is one of just 12 players to make that number of 3-pointers and shoot up to 40% from beyond the arc.  Danny is also ninth in postseason 3-pointers, 315 total.  “My body was letting me know. I was getting little calf strains here and there,” Green said. “But also, when you get older, teams aren’t calling as much. Unfortunately, my services weren’t as sought-after as they were when I was younger. It’s been a hell of a ride.” His career may be referred to as an unexpected ride.  Green is one of four players – Rashard Lewis, Kyle Korver, and Trevor Aziza Green is one of only four players to make as many 3-pointers as he did, joining the likes of  Kyle Korver, Rashard Lewis and Trevor Ariza. He was the 46th overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, which waived him after one term.  The San Antonio Spurs then signed him and he became their starter for seven seasons, helping the team win a title in 2014. The Spurs traded him to the Toronto Raptors as part of the deal for Kawhi Leonard. He started for the Raptors squad that won a title in 2019 and was starter again on the Los Angeles Lakers club that won in 2020.  “People ask me, ‘How did you learn how to become a winner? How do you become a leader?’” Green said. “And it’s the people before me, the people that have taught me, my coaches. They prepared me to be successful because ultimately I’m just a normal kid. I had some height, but I was not freakishly athletic. I just worked very hard, and I had the good resources around me to learn how to be professional and do things the right way.” Green tore his ACL and LCL when Joel Embiid landed on him during the Philadelphia 76ers season-ending playoff loss to the Miami Heat in May 2022. In the next two campaigns, he played in only 17 more matches; four of them playoff matches. He said he is hoping to find a gig in the media and mentioned he has some opportunities waiting. “I’m excited for the next chapter, the next journey,” Green said.

Ezekiel Elliot wants more playing time for the Cowboys

Ezekiel Elliot does not want his lack of playing time with the Dallas Cowboys to be a big issue.  He told reporters on Thursday that he discussed with coaches about his sparse appearances, but isn’t trying to complain a lot.  “I’ve talked a little bit (to the coaches),” Elliott said, to the Dallas Morning News. “But kinda let it play itself out.” Elliot began Week 1 taking 10 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown in the victory over the Cleveland Browns. In the four matches since then, he has not gotten over six carries, averaging 2.9 yards per totes. Elliot has played less than 30 snaps per match in the last four competitions, including 23 in Week 5’ weak victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Rico Dowdle has displayed more pop in the run game and gotten most of the carries. He has secured a career-high 20 carries for 87 yards on Sunday night.  Ezekiel mentioned that he wants to appear more in the red zone and short yardage scenarios where Dallas has struggled. He said he wasn’t sure why he was sidelined.  “It’s definitely a little different, but keep your head down,” he said. After he was released last season, Elliot spent 2023 with the New England Patriots. He recorded career lows with 652 yards on 184 carries and three touchdowns while averaging 3.5 yards with New England. Coming back to the Cowboys in 2024 has not been the reunion he hoped for.  “I just focus on being a good teammate,” Elliott said. “I’ve been focusing on continuing to help lead this team and I’m not making it about me, it’s about this football team (winning) football games.”
