Diego Gómez out six weeks with ankle injury

Inter Miami CF midfielder Diego Gómez will be absent for six weeks. This was after a high-grade ankle sprain in the first half of the club’s Matchday 10 win over Nashville SC. Miami is anticipating Gómez’s injury status, after he left the club’s 3-1 victory over Nashville SC on a stretcher with a sprained ankle. Diego fell with a non-contact injury in the 38th minute after pushing Nashville’s keeper Elliot Panicco near the goal line. His efforts earned Miami a corner kick that led to Sergio Busquets’ goal. It also inspired Lionel Messi to offer the club their first lead. “They took him to the hospital to get an X-ray. It was an ankle sprain,” head coach Gerardo Martino said post-match of the 21-year-old, who has 2 goals and 5 assists on the campaign. Gómez was fresh off a ‘Team of the Matchday’ award that Audi-worthy presented in Matchday 9. Gómez could become Inter Miami’s latest high-profile injury, after Federico Redondo and Facundo Farías. Benjamin Cremaschi made his season debut in Matchday 9 following January hernia surgery. Messi, a lead scorer is also weeks removed from a hamstring injury. Now Gómez’s short-term status is questionable, and probably his availability for Paraguay at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. “What we saw was an ankle sprain. We need to find out whether it was a regular sprain or whether there’s anything serious with the bone, and that’s what [we’re] trying to rule out now,” Martino added. “He was in a lot of pain, the ankle was swollen. But we can’t make any suppositions.”

nylander could be absent again for maple leafs

Nylander could be absent again for Maple Leafs in Game 2 of the Eastern 1st Round

William Nylander is still questionable for the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference. They play the first round against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Monday due to an undisclosed injury. The forward participated in the morning skate Monday after missing Game 1 of the best-of-7 series Saturday, a 5-1 defeat. Despite joining the team on the ice Monday, Nylander did not show up for in-line rushes. He also stayed on for extra skating with projected scratches.  However, head coach Sheldon Keefe did not completely discard the possibility of Nylander returning for Game 2.  “It’s great to see him with the group,” Keefe said after the skate. “He looks good out there. … We’ll see how he feels the rest of the day here and make a decision.” Nylander did not participate in special-teams drills; the team promoted Tyler Bertuzzi to the top power-play unit, while forward Calle Jarnkrok moved to the second unit. The Maple Leafs went 0-for-3 with the man advantage Saturday, and David Kampf scored the only goal. William played all 82 matches in the regular season. He finished with an NHL career-high 98 points (40 goals, 58 assists), 10th in the League. The team missed his offensive prowess in Game 1, but they got motivated seeing him on the ice on Monday. “A good sign,” Maple Leafs captain John Tavares said. “We know what he means to our hockey club, so great that he was out there.”   After Game 1, Keefe and other players mentioned how Toronto powered through key absences during the regular season, and will have to do the same in Game 2 if Nylander is absent. “They’re taking care of him, so it’s [only] a matter of time until he’s back in the lineup,” Maple Leafs forward Nicholas Robertson said. “We’ve got to do what we can without him and hopefully get a win tonight.”

nfl prospect aj simon dies on week before draft

NFL prospect AJ Simon dies one week before draft

College football player Amitral “AJ” Simon is dead. He died just one week before he might have fulfilled his pro ball dreams, his former university announced Wednesday. Simon, 25, transferred to the University of Albany in New York, where he played as a defensive lineman with the Great Danes in 2022 and 2023. The Danes said on their social media page that they will miss AJ “profoundly.” “AJ was a tremendous young man and even better teammate throughout this time at UAlbany,” the school said.”He was a role model on and off the field, serving as a pillar to this program over the last two years.” However, no one from AJ’s side has given a cause of the death. Simon was eligible for this week’s NFL draft and according to NBC Sport, had recently visited New England.  He announced his decision to join the draft in December after his team on the team ended. Simon described his collegiate career with the Great Dane as “pivotal” in shaping his path to the NFL draft. He said it made him a better person on and off the field. AJ wrote, “I am thrilled to represent the University of Albany as I take this next step in my football career.” “Sad that it’s over, but grateful that it happened. On that note, I will enter my name in the 2024 NFL Draft.” The Coastal Athletic Association named AJ Simon and other players in February that made the Comissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. This list requires students to maintain at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

kansas city chiefs wr rashee rice faces suspension

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice faces suspension

The Kansas City Chiefs seem to be without wide receiver Rashee Rice for some part of the 2024 NFL season. Adam Schefter has reported the potential length of a pending suspension. Rashee Rice is facing criminal charges and lawsuits for his alleged role in starting a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas, Texas in late March. An NFL insider has revealed more information on how the league may handle Rice’s offseason problems. Shefter of ESPN wrote what he heard around the NFL as the 2024 NFL Draft approaches. His comments about the Chiefs are receiver-heavy, beginning with his expectations for Rice’s possible suspension. “He is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury,” Schefter writes. “He turned himself in to police last week at the Regional Jail in DeSoto, Texas, before being released on bond. On top of the legal issues and lawsuit he is facing Rice is expected to be disciplined by the NFL, resulting in at least a multi-game suspension.” What does Adam Schefter’s report spell for Rice? Schefter’s phrase “at least a multi-game suspension” is interesting for certain reasons. First, it sets the stage. The NFL could suspend Rice for at least two matches. Besides that, what does Schefter mean by “at least? ” Technically, a 16-game suspension would be “multi-game’’ but less than a year-long ban. Based on Schefter’s phrasing, “multi-game’’ could be anything from a two-game suspension to an eight-game suspension. More than eight matches would be more than half of a season.   Realistically, one would argue that the reporter inferred a two-to-six-game suspension for Rice in that phrasing (with NFL precedent leaning toward the four-to-six-game range). However, the NFL will suspend Rashee Rice for “at least” two matches.

Soto fires off as Yankees breeze past Rays

Juan Soto swung his bat and felt it send a ball against the barrel, allowing himself a moment to take in a drive destined for the right-field seats. Looking toward the dugout, he flipped his bat and shouted, inviting his teammates to enjoy the ride. The “Soto Show’’ continues to attract spectators nighly in the Bronx, where Juan has been greatly advertised. His three-run homer showed a five-run seventh-inning outburst as the New York Yankees secured a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. Soto also delivered a leaping grab in the third inning, robbing Richie Palacios of an extra-base hit. No wonder he got a standing ovation and cries of “M-V-P!’’ as he mounted his defensive position in the eighth, with New York hoping to entice the pending free agent to stay long-term. Silent through the first six frames, the Yankees exploited two Tampa Bay mistakes in the seventh, with second baseman Curtis Mead and first baseman Yandy Diaz committing miscues. Oswaldo Cabrera’s run-scoring bouncer zapped past Diaz to tie the game, and Anthony Volpe snapped a 0-for-14 skid with a run-scoring single off Chris Devenski. This was before Soto crushed his fifth homer of the season, reaching the second deck in right field with a Statcast-calculated 409-foot blast. daniel campbell lobbied for lions black alternate jersey

Dan Campbell lobbied for Lions’ black alternate jerseys to return

The Detroit Lions released new uniforms on Thursday, including black alternates. It turns out head coach Dan Campbell specifically requested those black jerseys. And what Campbell wants, he gets.  Detroit team president Rod Wood told reporters Thursday night at the Lions new jersey launch, that Campbell lobbied for the black jerseys to be brought back. The former tight end wore them when he played for the team from 2006-2008. “So, we’re in the draft room, literally months into his tenure — and he wore the black when he was here — and we’re in the draft room, and he said, ‘Rod, when can we get the black jerseys back?’” Wood told reporters, via Jeanna Trotman of WXYZ. “I said, ‘I’ll make a deal, when you win the division I’ll bring the black jerseys back.’ So I went out on a limb, and thankfully, he delivered. That’s a true story.” The Lions won their first division title in 30 years last season, ruling the NFC North with a 12-5 record, so Campbell got his wish. “He loved them,” Wood said of the black unis. “When he was here, he wore them, and I think it was kind of the team’s favourite at the time, and he just pinned for it again. For him, it’s a throwback because it’s when he was a player. I think they’ve dressed up even better than when he was here…It’s a better look than the silver pants we wore at the time.” Among Lions supporters, the black fits can be met with mixed feelings. For some, they are a reminder of a dismal time in franchise history during the early 2000s when the club was historically bad, including the 0-16 2008 team. “There is a little history there, I’m well aware of it,” Wood admitted. “But we’re a new team, new leadership, new players, and I think the past is the past.” Detroit’s future looks promising under Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes. Now Campbell must turn the significance of the black jersey from negative to positive. Related NFL News: Browns Greg Newsome does not ‘pay attention’ to trade rumours.

See: NHL Predictions Today: New York Islanders VS Carolina Hurricanes Expert Picks. “He’s ready to go,” Islanders coach Patrick Roy said on Friday.  Dobson skated without support on Wednesday and joined the team for practice Friday before heading to Carolina. “When you leave a game and miss the three games to finish the year, you obviously had some concern with the playoffs coming,” Dobson said. “But I’ve just tried to focus on doing whatever I can to get myself ready. It’s been a day-by-day thing, just one day at a time, and I’m just happy to be feeling a little better here.” Noah had 70 points (10 goals, 60 assists) in 79 games this campaign and led New York in ice time per game (24:31).

foden: man city players to want to make history

Foden: Man City players want to make Premier League history

Manchester City players are determined to make history in the Premier League after their Champions League disappointment, says Phil Foden. The Citizens were kicked out of Europe by Real Madrid over two legs after losing a penalty shootout, with the two legs being tied at 4-4. However, Foden believes that defeat will be fuel for Manchester for the rest of the EPL season, as they also have an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea this weekend. Speaking to The Mail, Foden said: “We know if we win the Premier League this time we will have done something new. It’s something we have our eyes on. “Every time we put our boots on at the training ground that saying is there on the wall. “It says: “Nobody has won four Premier Leagues in a row…yet”. “We want to put ourselves in history. “Every day I sit and look at that slogan and I think: ‘Why not?’.” “My story is nice isn’t it?,” added Foden on his rise. “I played in every age group. “I am so happy for myself, the club and the younger players in the academy. “It probably does all mean a little bit more to me and yeh there has been pressure. “I had to become an adult at a very young age. I had to listen to a lot of people saying a lot of different things. He’s not playing enough. He should go on loan. “I mean I had Kevin [De Bruyne] and David [Silva] in front of me back then. I knew I didn’t deserve to play. “But now I want to be a role model for this academy and younger kids in my area. I tell them to never stop loving football. Because if you love it you will never be afraid of the hard work. “Hopefully young players look at me and think: “If Phil did it then why can’t I do it?” Related Premier League News: Palkin: Chelsea coaches must learn how to work with Mudryk.
