Cam Ward Poised to Go No. 1 as Titans Signal Their Intentions

Titans GM Mike Borgonzi confirmed Tuesday that the Titans will hold onto the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. As for who they’ll take, Borgonzi played coy, saying fans would have to wait until Thursday(though the likely selection is no secret) “I got a chance to learn more about (the Titans) personally over the last couple of months, and I am excited to hopefully hear my name called first,” Cam Ward said Wednesday at an NFL PLAY 60 event near Lambeau Field. “They have a great owner, a great GM… they don’t get enough credit on paper for what they really are.” Tennessee had a strong presence at Ward’s Miami pro day, and he’s already familiar with people within the organization. On Wednesday, he reunited with many of them and even shared a hug with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Ward praised the Titans’ offensive line and playmakers, particularly new No. 1 wideout Calvin Ridley. With the pieces in place, he sees the potential for success in Nashville.

Logan Thompson Shines in Capitals’ Game 2 Win Over Canadiens

Logan Thompson’s determination paid off in a big way during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round on Wednesday. Thompson stopped all 14 shots he faced in the third period to secure a 3-1 victory for the Capitals. Thompson’s stellar performance kept the Canadiens from capitalizing on their opportunities. His saves, including a glove stop on Josh Anderson during a 2-on-0 and a left skate save on Christian Dvorak’s deflection, were pivotal in preserving the lead. Connor McMichael’s empty-net goal with two seconds left sealed the win, giving Washington a 2-0 series lead. “I thought he was unbelievable, especially in the last five minutes,” said Capitals center Dylan Strome. “We were obviously just hanging on there.” Coach Spencer Carbery praised Thompson’s resilience, stating, “He wins us that game in the third period,”.

Landeskog Returns in Playoffs After Nearly Three Years Away

Gabriel Landeskog’s  return to the ice after nearly three years was a moment of triumph for both the player and the Colorado Avalanche. The captain, who had battled knee injuries, surgeries, finally made his comeback in Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round against the Dallas Stars. “It’s playoffs, so not a whole lot of time to think about what’s going on, how it’s feeling, how long you’ve been gone for,” Landeskog said. “It’s just kind of like, get into it and get playing. So, yeah, honestly, it felt pretty good.” Landeskog’s performance spoke for itself. In the emotional 2-1 overtime loss, he led the Avalanche with six hits in just 13:16 of ice time. Coach Jared Bednar praised his captain, saying, “He was physical right away, involved right away in a lot of different aspects of our game.” This was Landeskog’s first NHL game since June 26, 2022, when the Avalanche clinched the Stanley Cup, and his first game in 1,032 days. He became only the fifth player in NHL history to return after such a long absence. Reflecting on the night, Landeskog said, “It was a memory of a lifetime for me. It was very special,” even as the game ended in a loss.

Bruins Believe in Leadership, but Question Interim Coach Sacco’s Role

The Boston Bruins are focused on returning to Stanley Cup contention. However, they may be parting ways with interim coach Joe Sacco. During their end-of-season press conference on Wednesday, Cam Neely and Don Sweeney were backed by Charlie Jacobs as the right leadership to steer the franchise back to glory. “I’m proud to sit alongside these two gentlemen because I know we have the right people in the right seats on the bus to bring this franchise back to glory,” Jacobs said. Despite the team’s struggles, Neely and Sweeney remain confident in their vision. The season was marked by significant moves. Jim Montgomery was fired on Nov. 19 and key players such as captain Brad Marchand and longtime Bruins like Charlie Coyle and Brandon Carlo were traded. Their trade signaled a potential retooling of the roster. The team acknowledged that the current mix was underperforming. While they plan to rebound quickly, the process begins with finding a new head coach.

Aaron Judge Shines Again in Yankees’ 5-1 Win Over Guardians

Aaron Judge continued his hot streak in New York’s 5-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. The performance follows his four-hit game on Tuesday. Judge’s standout moment came in the first inning, when he hit a scorching triple off Guardians starter Luis L. Ortiz. The ball was hit at 110.9 mph, traveling 424 feet to dead center field, just missing what would have been his eighth home run of the season. Instead, it marked Judge’s sixth career triple, and only his third since 2018. He added a one-out single in the second inning to further contribute to the Yankees’ offense. The performance had the Yankees’ clubhouse buzzing. As Aaron Judge highlight reel played on the clubhouse TV before the game, teammates Oswaldo Peraza, Pablo Reyes, and Jorbit Vivas paused their conversations to watch. Judge’s consistent excellence is now evident in his .415 batting average and tie for the MLB lead in RBIs with 26. Yankees manager Aaron Boone was full of praise, stating, “He never ceases to amaze up there.”

Drury Signs New Contract to Stay GM of New York Rangers

Chris Drury has signed a multiyear contract to remain the general manager of the New York Rangers. Drury, 48, has held the role of both president and GM since May 2021. Over four full seasons, Drury has led the Rangers to a 193-105-30 record in the regular season and three playoff appearances. “I am honored to sign this contract extension and continue in this position with the team I grew up supporting,” Drury said. “There isn’t a more special organization in hockey and I look forward to continuing our work this offseason.” The Rangers missed the playoffs this season despite winning the Presidents’ Trophy last year. They reached the Eastern Conference Final that season, but this year ended in disappointment. The team finished fifth in the Metropolitan Division for the final wild card spot. Head coach Peter Laviolette was let go on April 19. Before becoming GM, Drury spent years in the Rangers front office. He started as director of player development in 2015, was promoted to assistant GM in 2016, and later associate GM in 2021. MSG Sports chairman said, “Chris has shown passion for the Rangers, relentless work ethic, and a tireless pursuit of excellence.” Drury also had a successful playing career. He won a Stanley Cup win with the Avalanche in 2001. He spent his final four seasons with the Rangers, serving as captain from 2008 to 2011.

Lightning Look to Rebound on Penalty Kill in Game 2

The Tampa Bay Lightning want to improve their penalty kill in their match against Florida Panthers on Thursday. After a poor performance in Game 1, the Lightning are focused on bouncing back. At the start of the 2023-24 season, the Lightning’s penalty kill struggled at just 72.2% through the first 10 games, which ranked 27th in the league. However, they managed to rebound and finish in the top 10 by the end of the season. This experience has given them confidence as they look to turn things around. “We really have to play catch-up to make ourselves get into the top six or seven and we did that for 60-plus games,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “Our PK’s been exceptional of late, and hopefully Game 1’s performance is an aberration.” The Lightning are determined to return to their strong penalty-killing form.

Ullmark Focused on Moving Forward, Looking to Crowd for Support in Game 3

Ottawa Senators goalie Linus Ullmark is never one to dwell on the past, no matter the circumstances. “For me, it’s just about enjoying the ride a little bit,” Ullmark said after an off-ice workout at the Canadian Tire Centre ahead of Game 3 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. “Every game is a new beast to tame, in a way. So, you can’t really think that the last game is going to be the same thing as [Thursday’s] game. Every game is a new opportunity to prove yourself.” Down 2-0 in the series following a 6-2 loss in Game 1 and a Max Domi overtime winner in Game 2, the Senators are looking to turn things around at home. Ullmark’s stats have struggled with an .800 save percentage and a 4.39 goals-against average through the first two games. Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz, meanwhile, has been exceptional, stopping 57 of 61 shots. When asked to assess his play in the series, Ullmark responded with a playful grin: “What do you think?”. He knows how to use humor as a way to cope with tough situations, keeping his mind focused on the next opportunity.

Cal Clutterbuck, the NHL’s all-time leader in hits with 4,029, officially announced his retirement. The announcement was made on Wednesday in an Instagram post. His retirement closed the book on a 16-season career spent with the Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders. “After 17 years, it’s time to hang up the skates,” the 37-year-old forward wrote. “I’m beyond grateful for every teammate, coach, fan, and moment along the way.
