nfl preseason 2023 week 1 schedule

NFL preseason 2023 Week 1 schedule and takeaways

The first week of the NFL preseason 2023 began on Thursday night, with New England Patriots hosting the Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks receiving the Minnesota Vikings. C.J. Stroud the No.2 overall pick got his first NFL reps starting for Houston. He went 2-for-4 for 13 yards and an interception before coach DeMeco Ryans looked to incumbent starter Davis Mills. Mills went 9-of-12 for 99 yards and a touchdown before Case Keenum took over under centre. While the Carolina Panthers named No.1 overall pick Bryce Young the starter to open training camp, Ryans still has not picked a starter between Stroud and Mills. On the other side of the pitch, New England fans will have to wait another week to observe how quarterback Mac Jones is adjusting to Bill O’Brien’s new offense. Seattle’s Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith watched Drew Lock take the start. Jaxon Smith-Njiba, the second of the Seahawk’s first-round picks, got his first NFL action Thursday night, along with Vikings first-rounder Jordan Addison. These are the biggest takeaways from Thursday’s games, including the link to the rest of the Week 1 NFL preseason 2023 schedule. More from the NFL: 2023 NFL preseason, Week 1: What experts learned from Thursday’s preseason doubleheader. NFL preseason games on Thursday, August 10 Houston Texans 20, New England Patriots 9 Texans: “C.J. Stroud struggled in his first preseason start, which could allow the quarterback competition with Davis Mills to linger. Stroud played two series and went 2-for-4 for 13 yards with an interception. Mills went 9-for-12 for 99 yards with a touchdown.  Stroud appeared to be separating in the competition as coach DeMeco Ryans gave Stroud all the first-team offensive reps in practice as he showed better command of the offense. But in his first NFL action, he was tentative, took a sack and threw an interception that led to a Patriots’ field goal. He didn’t have excellent protection, as he was under pressure on 60% of his dropbacks.  On the other hand, Mills led the Texans to their only points of the first half with a touchdown throw to rookie receiver Tank Dell”. –  DJ Bien-Aime. Next game: vs. Dolphins (4 p.m. ET, Saturday, August 19). Patriots: “On a night that most starters didn’t play, second-round draft pick Keion White turned in an impressive debut. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive end out of Georgia Tech started on the edge and was consistently disruptive around the ball. He finished with three tackles, including smothering running back Dare Ogunbowale on a loose exchange with quarterback Davis Mills that linebacker Calvin Munson recovered for a turnover. White’s performance, combined with first-round pick Christian Gonzalez starting at cornerback, infuses youth into an already strong defense that returns every player except Devin McCourty. The Patriots lead the NFL in terms of defensive retention.” – Mike Reiss. Next game: at Packers (8 p.m. ET, Saturday, Aug. 19). Seattle Seahawks 24, Minnesota Vikings 13 Seahawks: “Drew Lock has yet to put it all together over four NFL seasons, but he showed Thursday night why the Seahawks continue to believe that he’s a starting-calibre quarterback. With Geno Smith and most of Seattle’s veteran first-teamers getting the night off, Lock started against Minnesota and played into the fourth quarter, in large part because the Seahawks want to get him as many reps as possible this preseason after he didn’t play a single snap in last year’s regular season.  At times, he looked like he was shaking off rust from almost a calendar year on the bench. But he mostly showed off the tools that made him a second-round pick and a player Seattle badly wanted to acquire in the Russell Wilson trade. Lock completed 17 of 24 passes for 191 yards, two touchdown passes and a tough-luck interception on a throw that was tipped at the line of scrimmage.” –  Brady Henderson Vikings: “Running back Ty Chandler took advantage of an extended look Thursday night as he competes for the No. 2 job behind starter Alexander Mattison.  Playing for almost the entire first half, Chandler rushed for 41 yards on 11 carries, while also catching four passes for another 29 yards. Along the way, he demonstrated his ability to make the first defender miss. And he did so, coach Kevin O’Connell said at halftime, on some poorly blocked plays. With Kene Nwangwu sidelined by injury for most of camp and rookie DeWayne McBride struggling, Chandler has a clear path to the No. 2 job at this point.” – Kevin Seifert Next game: vs. Titans (8 p.m. ET, Saturday, Aug. 19) Next game: vs. Cowboys (10 p.m. ET, Saturday, Aug. 19) View the rest of the schedule for NFL preseason 2023 games for the month of August. 2023 nba christmas day schedule feature celtics vs lakers

2023 NBA Christmas Day schedule: Celtics vs. Lakers rivalry renewed; Nuggets to host Warriors

The 2023 NBA Christmas Day schedule will be graced by the latest edition of the rivalry between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, and a game between the last two champions; Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors. As usual, the will be five marquee games running through out the day. In the event, the Milwaukee Bucks will travel to Madison Square Garden to play against the New York Knicks, while the Philadelphia 76ers will face the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks will meet the Phoenix Suns. This will be seventh season in a row that Boston has played on Christmas, and the fifth time overall they’ve played the Lakers on the day. The most recent Christmas showdown between the age-long rivals was in 2008, when Los Angeles scored a 92-83 win behind 27 points, nine rebounds, and five assists from the late Kobe Byrant. The Celtics later had the last laugh of that season, when they went ahead to win the Finals over the Lakers in six games; they will hope to repeat this history. Denver and Golden State on the other hand, have both been staples on the Christmas schedule in recent years, this will be the 11th consecutive time they are participating, but they have never played each other on the day. They have had many thrilling matches since their respective cores have been together, and this has the makings of being the most exciting game of the day. The Milawukee Bucks trip to New York to play the Knicks, will be rematch of the 2018 Christmas game, which Giannis Antetokounmpo and his team easily won. Madison has favoured Antetokounmpo throughout his career; he mad his NBA debut there, jumped over Tim Hardaway Jr. for a dunk and shot the game-winner in 2017. It is curious that the 76ers and Heat are scheduled to play on the 2023 NBA Christmas Day especially since both clubs are presently in limbo about a few key players. Philadelphia is figuring out what to do with James Harden, who has requestd a trade and wants to play for the Los Angeles Clippers. While Miami is hoping for a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers to buy Damian Lillard. These two teams could look different by December. Fans can expect a great basketball day when Dallas and Phoenix get placed last. This will be a rematch of the teams’ intriguing 2022 second-round series, which the Mavericks won in seven games. It will also be the first time that they have ever played a match on Christmas. With Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal set to make an appearance, the game should be a high-scoring fixture. 2023 nba opening night schedule

2023 NBA opening night schedule features Lakers vs. Nuggets and Suns vs. Warriors

The 2023 NBA opening night schedule for the 2023-24 season has been released, and it will feature four of the best teams in the Western Conference on October 24th. The defending champions Denver Nuggets will host the Los Angeles Lakers in a Western Conference Finals rematch, while the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors face off, per report by Shams Charania. Additionally, No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama is ready for his official debut for the San Antonio Spurs on October 25th against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, according to Marc Stein. Nikola Jokic missed being MVP last season, but he got a reward when he led the Nuggets to their first title in franchise history, and was named Finals MVP. On opening night, he will get his first ring, and witness the banner raised to the rafters of Ball Arena with all his teammates. Then he will play to defeat the Lakers again after booting them off the playoffs last season. Although, Jokic will not care much for all the glamour of ring night, it will still be a special moment for him, the team, and Denver. The Nuggets have existed since 1967, and have never had someone like Jokic or won a championship before last season. This will provide an opportunity for them to celebrate this accomplishment again before beginning their title defense. The other match, will largely center around veteran point guard Chris Paul. After three season at Phoenix, Paul was traded to the Washington Wizards this summer in the Bradley Beal blockbuster, then later joined the Warriors in exchange for Jordan Poole. This matchup will be both a debut with the Warriors and a first shot at revenge on the Suns. No matter, the 2023 NBA opening night will be a chance for both teams to indicate where they stand in the West after shorter playoff runs than they may have hoped and big offseason changes. Can Phoenix hmake the perimeter-heavy trio of Kevin Dutant, Devin Booker and Beal with limited depth? And how will the Warrios, intergrate Paul as they wish to cling to contender status. Another interest thing about the 2023 NBA opening night is that no Eastern Conference team will be featured. The defending champion is always in action, but the league usually splits the event up with one marquee game for every conference.  Maybe the uncertainity following the defending East champions, the Miami Heat, is responsible for this. If they had gotten Damian Lillard, then they’ll surely they’ll be shown, but this has not happened yet, and the NBA does not seem excited about how the whole thing is playing out. Howver, it is still strange that no East team will be making an appearance. Related News: 2023 NBA Christmas Day schedule: Celtics vs. Lakers rivalry renewed; Nuggets to host Warriors.

los angeles dodgers add yarbrough to strengthen staff

Just In: Los Angeles Dodgers add LHP Yarbrough to strengthen staff

The Los Angeles Dodgers made another effort to boost their pitching staff right before Tuesday’s Trade Deadline, signing left-hander Ryan Yarbrough from the Royals in exchange for Minor League first baseman Devin Mann (L.A’s No.29 prospect) and shortstop Derlin Figueroa. Yarbrough was absent for 55 games after being hit in the face by a line drive, but he has been fantastic since his return. He had a 2.19 ERA in four starts in the month of July, permitting only six runs in 24  2/3  innings with 15 strikeouts and only two walks. He has a 4.24 ERA this year, but as a starter, he is pitched to a 3.08 ERA. Royals signed Yarbrough to a one-year, $3 million deal this last offseason aftr he was non-tendered by the Rays, and he still has an extra year of arbitration eligibility before joining free agency. He has enough experience starting and relieving, plus pitching behind an opener. Ryan is a low-velocity, high-ground ball pitcher with his fastball averaging 87 mph and his curveball clocking in at 71 mph. But he has managed to get outs with both, including his cutter. He has only a 4.2% walk rate this year, along with a 38.2% ground-ball rate. LA previously bought right-handed starter Lance Lynn and righty reliverr Joe Kelly from the White Sox last week. five top prospects for anaheim ducks

Five top prospects for Anaheim Ducks

NHL.com is giving in-depth prospect analysis for all of its 32 teams from August 1 – September 1. Today, the top five prospects for the Anaheim Ducks, according to NHL are: 1. Leo Carlsson, F How he was acquired: Selected with the No.2 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. 2022 – 23 season: Orebro HK (SHL): 44 GP, 10-15-25 Carlsson signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Anaheim Ducks on July 12, although it is still unclear where he will start the season. The center also played with Sweded at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship and had six points in seven games (three goals, three assists) and five points (three goals, two assists) in eight games at the 2023 World Championship. “The first thing that stands out to you is his size,” Matt McIlvane, coach of the Ducks American Hockey League affiliate in San Diego said. “He’s a big, tall guy that certainly knows how to use that range on the ice. His ability with the puck and ability to be able to see the game stands out right away to be at a very high level. And again, the thing that was the most impressive about Leo is just his character. He’s humble, he’s coachable, he’s excited. And he’s very, very hungry for the opportunity.” Projected NHL arrival: This season. 2. Pavel Mintyukov, D How he was acquired: Selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. 2022-23 season: Saginaw (OHL): 37 GP, 16-38-54; Ottawa (OHL): 32 GP, 8-26-34 Mintyukov (6-1, 192) headed the Ontario Hockey League defensemen with 88 points (24 goals, 64 assists) in 69 games with Saginaw and Ottawa last season and was named OHL Defenseman of the Year. He will play in the American Hockey League this season if does not get a spot out of training camp, but he will probably be in Anaheim Ducks uniform sometime in 2023-24. Projected NHL arrival: This season. 3. Olen Zellweger, D How he was acquired: Selected with the No.34 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft 2022-23 season: Kamloops (WHL): 32 GP, 22-30-52; Everett (WHL) 23 GP, 10-18-28 Zellweger is another prospect for the Anaheim Ducks led Western Hockey League defensemen in goals (32) and was second at the position in points (80) with Everett and Kamloops last season. He (5-9, 175) was named WHL Defenseman of the Year for the past two seasons and has gotten more than a shot to make the opening night roster. “I think that the goal for [Mintyukov and Zellweger] has to be training to make the team out of camp,” McIlvane said. “And then understand that if the timing’s not right or the plan for their development sends them to the American Hockey League that they’re going to have a place that they’re excited about coming to and a place where they know that they’re going to have a great, clear plan about getting better to be able to accomplish their goals, being able to get to the Ducks and hopefully take that team to another level. … They’re two very dynamic players that have very good hockey sense, great skill level.” Projected NHL arrival: Next season 4. Nathan Gaucher, F How he was acquired: Selected with the No. 22 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. 2022-23 season: Quebec (QMJHL): 44 GP, 22-24-46 Gaucher (6-3, 208) pounds was exceptional in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season. He secured 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 18 playoff games to aid Quebec to win the QMJHL title, won the Guy Carbonneau Trophy as the best defensive forward in the QMJHL, and the Memorial Cup. Nathan also helped Canada win gold at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, with four points (one goal, three assists) in seven games. “He strikes you right away as somebody that could have great leadership qualities about him,” McIlvane said. “When you’re giving a meeting as a coach, he’s one of the guys that’s just totally locked in. Anytime there’s a drill on the ice, he’s so focused on what he’s doing, and you can just tell that his makeup has helped him to have success, but also his success that he had gives him a great level of confidence moving into this next challenge.” Projected NHL arrival: This season. 5. Jacob Perreault, F How he was acquired: Selected with the No. 27 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft 2022-23 season: San Diego (AHL): 48 GP, 8-11-19 Perreault (5-11, 192 pounds) had 19 points in 48 games last season in his second full season in the AHL. He has played one NHL game (in 2021-22) but should compete for a bottom-six forward spot at training camp. “I didn’t get to see (Perrault) at development camp. He has been with the team just a little bit longer,” McIlvane said. “He’s got a big focus for this summer on getting himself physically ready to be able to challenge for our spot at training camp. Projected NHL arrival: Next season. Related News: Montreal Canadiens own two of NHL’s top 50 prospects.
