Chicago Bulls declare basketball operations updates and additions

The Chicago Bulls Executive Vice President – Basketball Operations Artūras Karnišovas announced on July 13th the updates below and additions within the team’s basketball operations department ahead of the 2024-24 NBA regular season. “These changes are steps toward ensuring the progress of the Bulls organization,” said Karnišovas. “We have brought in talented and well-respected people who have high standards and share our vision for success. Moreover, we have alignment and support between the front office and ownership, and we are all committed to bringing together a team that our fans can be proud of.” Wes Unseld Jr. will join the Bulls as an assistant coach after serving three seasons (2021-2024) as the head coach for the Washington Wizards. Before his time with the Wizards, Unseld was assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets (2015-21), Orlando Magic (2012-14) and Golden State Warriors (2011-12).  He started his NBA career in 1997 as an advance/pro scout with Washington before being promoted to assistant coach status with the Wizards (2005-2011). Preceding his professional coaching career, Wes played collegiately at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Dan Craig joins Chicago as an assistant coach after four seasons as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers (2020-2024), which was preceded by 17 campaigns with the Miami Heat (2003-2020). After he started his career as video intern with Miami in 2003, Craig spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach for the Heat and one season as the head coach of the team’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce (2015-16).  During his tenure with the Heat, Craig was part of three NBA Championship teams (2006, 2012, 2013) and was named 2015-16 G League Coach of the Year. He played college basketball at Plymouth State University before his professional coaching career started. Eric Waters, a veteran athletic trainer and in the sports performance fields, returns to the Bulls as director of player health and performance for a second stint with the team. Waters was the assistant athletic trainer from 2000-2004. Most recently, he was the head athletic trainer for the Utah Jazz (2017-24), which succeeded 12 seasons (2004-16) as head athletic trainer for the Washington Wizards.  During his time with the Wizards, Waters was named the NBA’s Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2010 by the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association (NBATA).  He has degrees in exercise science and psychology from the University of Iowa and a master’s in exercise science from Boise State University. Besides his daily NBA experience, Waters has also held athletic training roles for the USA Men’s National Basketball Team, the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders Program and NFL Europe.  He is certified and licensed as an athletic trainer (ATC), strength and conditioning coach (CSCS), corrective exercise specialist (CES) and performance enhancement specialist (PES). John Byrant has been promoted to the front of the bench after joining the Bulls as an assistant coach in 2020. Henry Domercant will take over as an assistant coach on the second bench, transitioning from his role as head coach of the Windy City Bulls. Billy Donovan III has been promoted to head coach of the Windy City Bulls.

tatum says title ends debate on his elite status

Jayson Tatum says title ends ‘debate’ on his elite status

Fresh off an NBA title and signing a historic contract extension over the weekend, Jayson Tatum visited Sin City for his first Team USA training camp practice on Monday. “A hundred percent,” Tatum said, shortly after participating in his first practice here after being excused from the opening two days of preparation for the Paris Olympic Games. “Just being at the topic of discussion of so many debates or whatever it is … ‘Can he lead a team? Is he a top-five player?’ “There’s still a lot of things I guess they can debate. But now I’ve done something that they can’t debate: I’ve won a championship. Having that under my belt, like obviously it’s still conversations to be had or whatever people want to say, but they always got to refer to me as an NBA champion.” There is no arguing that Tatum and the Boston Celtics followed up leading the league with 64 regular season victories by going 16-3 in the postseason. This is second only to the 16-1 mark by the Golden State Warriors in terms of playoff winning percentage since the NBA went to four seven-game rounds in the playoffs. Tatum said that the championship parade last month was “the best two hours of my life” and that it was hard to explain how “insane” the atmosphere and energy were in the city that day, as the Celtics beat long-time rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, to become the NBA leader with 18 championships.  However, if anyone was wondering that the Celtics, especially coach Joe Mazzulla would be relaxing after winning that first championship, Jayson made it clear that would not happen. “Joe is already trying to draw up s— for next season,” Tatum said with a smile. “And I was like, ‘Joe, f— that. We just won a championship. Enjoy it. Relax.’ “Like, I’m not worried about any sets that he’s trying to put in right now. We had a laugh about it, because he’s just so driven — which we all are, but it’s like, man, we worked so hard for this. So we got to enjoy it.” Tatum is also enjoying Boston’s roster continuity entering next season. The team has re-signed centres Luke Kornet, Neemias Queta and Xavier Tillman in free agency. They inked both Jayson and All-Defensive Team guard Derrick White to long-term contract extensions. Currently, Boston has kept 13 of 15 players from its championship-winning roster, with first-round pick Baylor Scheierman replacing Oshae Brisset and SVI Mykhailiuk. Tatum is excited for this change, stating that he hopes everyone from last season’s team will be back.

hill excited to 'see where I fit into' new WR market

Tyreek Hill ‘excited to see where I fit’ into new WR market

This NFL offseason has washed in a wave of new wide receiver contracts, resetting the top of the market position. One player hoping to ride this wave is Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill, who said he was thinking about his next deal and is thrilled to see what his new pay standard would mean for him. “I’m very excited to just be a part of the old wave, which was $30 million, and Justin Jefferson came and surpassed that, man,” Hill said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. “So, very proud of those guys, happy for obviously my teammate (Jaylen) Waddle getting his new deal. For guys like me, that’s great. I’m 30 years old, also looking for a new deal. So, very, very excited to see where I fit into that category. It’s amazing.” When Hill signed his present four-year, $120 million extension with the Miami Dolphins after joining through a trade from Chiefs, his $30 million annually average was at the top of the rankings for the position. But only in the last three months, three players have exceeded that average, according to Over the Cap. This includes Minnesota Vikings’ Jefferson, who set the new high mark with his $35 million per year average. Hill’s teammate Waddle also signed a three-year $84.75 million extension that is just below his average. Hill is set to receive $19.665 million in 2024, the last year with guaranteed money, indicating that the time has come for him to get an extension to put his salary more in line with current standards for a player of his calibre. He has been one of the best at his position joining the Dolphins, earning first-team All-Pro honours both years while also continuing his streak of making the Pro Bowl each of his eight seasons.  This most recent year, Hill led the league by averaging 112.4 yards per game, with a total of 1,799 yards, just short of his goal of becoming the first WR to break 2,000 yards in a season. But, how paying him fits into the Dolphins’ future plans could be complicated because the team is spending money in other places. For now, Hill said he is not focusing on the money, and his immediate priority still remains leading his team to postseason glory, which has eluded them despite succeeding in the regular-season. “Oh yeah, for sure, so very excited for it, man, but the real goal is to win the Super Bowl,” Hill said. “It’s cool to get paid and all that, but you know being able to win a Super Bowl and bring something special to the city of Miami, that’s something that can live with us forever. I believe that’s very monumental for all of us. Create greatness, man.”

Betting On The Detroit Tigers 1XBet Spread: +1.5 1XBet Moneyline: 2.171 1XBet Over/Under: Over 7.5 The Detroit Tigers made a comeback after falling behind early this season. Four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning was enough to give them extra innings. Gio Urshela hit a homer and drove in three RBIs. Overall, the Tigers average 4.8 runs, while their pitching concedes 4.29 runs per match. Detroit’s offense is 23rd in the MLB, while the pitching is ranked 13th. Riley Greene does not get enough attention, but he has delivered 17 home runs and driven in 45 RBIs so far this campaign. In his last start against the San Francisco Giants, Bibee went 4.2 innings, conceding six hits and four runs.  MatchPlug Prediction For Detroit Tigers VS Cleveland Guardians  Olson having a 3-8 is considered unjust by experts, especially with how good his pitching is. However, the Tigers have often failed to give him any run support. Bibee has been strong this campaign, and he currently has an ERA of 3.67. The Guardians and Tigers bats will be cold here, and the game will struggle to reach the five run mark. Punters are advised to back under. Final Prediction: Cleveland Guardians Under.

mlb trade rumour: mets buying, angels fielding offers

MLB trade rumours: Mets concentrating on buying at deadline, Angels listening to closer offers

The 2024 MLB trade deadline is on Tuesday, July 30, and so far Luis Arraez and Aaron Civale have been transferred to other clubs. More trades are in the works. Below are the latest MLB trade deadline rumours. Mets concentrating on buying A month-long heater has seen the Mets win 18 of their last 25 matches and advance to within 1.5 games of a Wild Card spot. According to the New York Post, New York is concerned with buying at the trade deadline. Getting help for the Bullpen is important. A high-end starting pitcher with control beyond 2024 would be good too. Edwin Diaz recently missed 15 days with shoulder discomfort and is presently serving a 10-game sticky stuff suspension. Even when he was healthy, Diaz has not dominated in the past. Veterans Jake Diekman and Adam Ottavino have been outdone by journeyman types Reed Garrett and Dedniel Núñez who have been working hard lately. One or two bona fide late inning arms definitely make sense as a deadline target. Reds cannot decide on buying or selling The Reds will hope to complete a three-game sweep of the Yankees in New York. But, they enter the day 3.5 matches out of a wild-card spot with five teams ahead of them. General manager Brad Meador recently stated that the team is still undecided on its deadline approach. They could buy or sell. Cincinnati is 41-45 despite a plus-17 run differential. “We have to wait and see how we finish off this road trip and the homestand coming up, and then we’ll see,” Meador told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “We’re talking about it. We’d love to be able to add. But, realistically, we’ll probably just have to see how it goes.” Following the Yankees series, Cincinnati will play the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, and Miami Marlins entering into the All-Star break. This is a favourable schedule and a chance to rack up the wins before the deadline. If they buy, bullpen help and an outfielder would be on their shopping list. If they sell, Frankie Montas, Lucas Sims, and Brent Suter would be traded. Angels monitoring  Estévez The Los Angeles Angels are listening to offers for closer Carlos Estévez, a report by FanSided says. Estévez has been exceptional this year, pitching to a 3.00 ERA with 27 strikeouts and three walks were intentional too. He is owed the balance of his $6.75 million salary, so he is cheap, and a bat-misser with high leverage experience. Los Angeles will find it easy to get a suitor and it is very possible that Estévez will be traded before the deadline.

walker announces his retirement

Ex-All-Star guard Kemba Walker announces his retirement

Kemba Walker, the all-time leading scorer in Charlotte Hornets history and four-time All-Star in his 12 NBA seasons, announced that he will be retiring from basketball on Tuesday. Walker, who played for AS Monaco in the Euroleague last campaign, spent eight seasons with the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets (2011 -19), two seasons with the Boston Celtics (2019-21), and one season with the New York Knicks (2012-22) and Dallas Mavericks (2022-23) in his NBA career. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Walker will join new coach Charles Lee’s staff as a player enhancement coach. In his social media post, Walker wrote: “Basketball has done more for me than I could’ve ever imagined, and I am super thankful for the amazing journey I’ve had. With that, I’m here to share that I am officially retiring from the game of basketball. “This has been a dream. When I look back, I still can’t believe the things I achieved in my career.” The 6-foot guard was a three-time NBA All-Star for the Hornets, and then in his first season with the Celtics in 2019-20. But Walker missed valuable time recently due to knee issues. He also missed 37 matches with New York in 2021-22 and only nine matches with the Mavericks last season. Walker will retire as the Hornets’ top scorer and ranks in their top three in matches played, assists and steals. He also holds the team record for 3-pointers made and attempted, field goals made and attempted and free throws made and attempted. Kemba averaged 19.3 points for his 12-year NBA career, which came after a remarkable college career at UConn where he led the school to a 2011 national title. He was named the most outstanding player of the Final Four that year. Walker played for most of the pandemic-altered 2019-20 season, the last of five consecutive seasons where he averaged at least 20 points per game.
