The NBA announced on Wednesday that Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has been suspended for eight games without pay for conduct detrimental to the league.
Ja Morant was suspended in regards to a live stream video by an intoxicated Morant on March 4 in which he was holding a firearm while visiting a Denver area nightclub. He will be cleared to return for the team’s game against the Dallas Mavericks on March 20.
Ja Morant and the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had a meeting in the NBA’s New York offices to discuss Morant’s conduct. The meeting was attended by NBA Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars, and NBPA Executive Director Tamika Tremaglio, among others.
An investigation was conducted on the incident that took place on March 4. Based on the information that was obtained, the league did not affirm that the gun at issue was Morant’s, was brought to him into the nightclub or was displayed by him beyond a brief period.
They also did not confirm that Morant had the gun with him while travelling with the team or in any NBA facility. The Colorado Authorities did not find enough cause to charge him with a crime.
“Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,” said Silver. “It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him. He has expressed sincere contrition and remorse for his behaviour. Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to the Memphis Grizzlies and the broader NBA community extend well beyond his play on the court.”
Giannis Anetokounmpo scored 36 points to aid the Milwaukee Bucks to beat the Phoenix Suns and become the first team to secure their spot in the NBA playoffs.
Milwaukee’s 116-104 victory was the team’s 50th win of the regular season.
Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Anetokounmpo reminded everyone why he got that title in the first place by contributing 11 rebounds and eight assists as the Bucks stretched out their lead over the Boston Celtics at the top of the Eastern Conference.
“Making the play-offs in this league is hard,” Bucks’ coach Mike Budenholzer said.
“You should never take anything for granted. We have a special team. Our focus, effort and desire is to just keep getting better.”
Brooke Lopez supported Anetokunmpo with 21 points, and three other Milwaukee Bucks players finished with double figures as the team fought back in the final quarter to get themselves a 50-19 record.
Denver Nuggets the leaders of the Western Conference, dropped to a fourth straight defeat as Fred VanVleet preserved the playoff hopes of the Toronto Raptors with 36 points in their 125-110 victory.
The Los Angeles Lakers on their own part came back from Saturday’s defeat by the New York Knicks with a clean 123-108 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Anthony Davis of the Lakers led the scoring for his team with 35 points and 17 rebounds, placing them in firm competition for a play-off place with only four weeks of the regular season left.
LeBron James has raised his equity in FSG – owners of the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool, after a ‘lifetime deal’ owning to his long-term partnership with Nike was announced.
James previously shared a minor stake in Liverpool for a decade but changed his two per cent share in 2022 for a one per cent share in FSG.
Now, he had boosted his ownership in FSG, with an official confirmation from the Liverpool owners stating this. According to a report by Sportico a business outlet in the USA, Nike athlete LeBron will solidify his partnerships as “part of a lifetime marketing deal’’ which was recently signed.
FSG released a statement on Friday (through Business Wire), which affirmed the details. “FSM [Fenway Sports Management] and LRMR Ventures have extended their longstanding strategic partnership into a lifetime deal that will allow FSM to continue to secure exclusive global marketing and sponsorship opportunities for four-time NBA Champion LeBron James.
“As part of the agreement, James, and co-founder of LRMR Ventures Maverick Carter will receive additional equity in FSM’s parent company FSG. James and Carter became members of FSG’s ownership group in 2021.”
James is still involved in Liverpool, even if he is no more a direct owner, with his LFC LeBron 9 Low’ trainers being released, the most recent in a series of crossover merchandise that went on sale this season. LeBron previously accepted another ‘lifetime deal’ with Nike, who are LiverPool’s Kit manufacturers.
The Cleveland State Vikings will play against the Norsemen with a season record of 21-12. Presently, they’ve been the home team 16 times, with a 13-3 record. Cleveland has been the underdog 14 times, going 6-8 straight up.
Tristan Enaruna is the Vikings’ leading scorer for today’s game at 15.38 points per contest. Enaruna has been a vital part of his team’s scoring efforts, but he is also the top rebounder at Cleveland State. Behind Enaruna is Tae Williams whose strong play benefitted the team. Williams is second in scoring 11.0 points per game. Overall, he hit 52.5% of his shots and added 5.94 boards per game.
The Vikings walk into today’s game intending to dominate the Norsemen by continuing their powerful offensive play. They average 75.6 points per game. For 33 games, they’ve hit 47.9% of their field goal attempts. In pace, they prefer to slow the game down, ranking 420th in possessions per game.

1XBet Moneyline: 1.732

The Northern Kentucky Norsemen head into their 34th game of the season today, with a record of 21-12. They would be playing their 14th game of the season, after going 7-7. Kentucky has been the favourites 23 times; 17-6 straight up.
Northern Kentucky will be expecting another outstanding performance from the team’s leading scorer Marques Warrick who averages 19.06 points per game for his team. He is also important to their ability to score on the perimeter. Currently, he leads the team in 3-point shots made. Sam Vinson is another key player in the Norsemen’s plan, he has hit 38.9% of his field goal attempts on his way to averaging 11.38 points per game.
The Norsemen have struggled with their offense this season, now ranking 241st in college basketball at 69.9 points per game. Their low-scoring totals are because they have played at a below-average pace, and faced challenges in knocking down outside shots. Northern Kentucky’s 3-point shooting percentage sits at only 34.6%, placing them 207th in the NCAA.
MatchPlug Prediction
For today’s game, there are two reasons why the Northern Kentucky Norsemen will win and cover; they have been good vs the spread on the road, scoring 7-3 over their last 10 road games, and they also have the edge in 3-point shooting.
The Norsemen’s offense averages 8.75 made 3’s per game, putting them far above the NCAA average. Their advantage from beyond the arc should carry them to a straight-up win.
Ja Morant the Grizzlies guard has been suspended and will miss at least two games, the Memphis Grizzlies announced on Saturday.
This news came after Morant posted a video of him to Instagram Live which seemed to show him holding a gun at the nightclub.
“We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating.’’ Mike Bass the NBA spokesman told Adrian Wojnarowski earlier on Saturday.
This story is coming up days after Molly Hensley-Clancy of the Washington Post reported that Morant was mentioned in a police report for punching a 17-year-old repeatedly at a pickup basketball game last summer and then brandishing a gun at the teenager.
TMZ Sports said the 17-year-old filed a lawsuit against Ja Morant in September.
In another case, Morant allegedly “threatened’’ a security guard at Memphis mall in an altercation which took place over the summer, although nobody was arrested.
Bob Kravitz and Sam Amick of The Athletic, report that the NBA also investigated a January situation where friends of Morant got into an argument with members of the Indiana Pacers travelling party.
The Pacer travelling group recounted that someone in a car carrying Morant and others flashed a laser on them as it drove past them outside the arena. They believed the laser was attached to a gun.
The NBA said it could not prove the alleged use of a weapon to threaten the group.
Ja Morant has been one of the top young players in the league throughout his four seasons with the Grizzlies, receiving two All-Star selections, a Rookie of the Year award and last year’s Most Improved Player award.
Morant is averaging 27.1 points, 8.2 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game this season, making him a shoo-in for MVP candidate for the second-best team in the Western Conference going into Saturday.
The Memphis Grizzlies should be facing the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday in a couple of road games at Crypto.com Arena. If Morant comes back after his two-game absence, he will play the Golden State Warriors at home on Thursday, March 9.
This Tuesday, the Atlanta Hawks fired Nate McMillan after a heart-wrenching 29-30 start to the season. The change was needed, but fans will do well to remember that McMillan is the second coach, Trae Young has failed to get along with. Young also clashed with former HC Lloyd Pierce.
Amidst their struggles and Young’s refusal to work closely with coaching, there is a chance that Trae Young will ask for a trade this off-season or the organization chooses to part ways with the star guard.
If Atlanta does let go of Young, the Miami Heat (+400), Chicago Bulls (+500), and the Dallas Mavericks (+600) are the favourites who might get the player in a trade.
These are the top 10 teams below:
Miami Heat (+400)
Chicago Bulls (+500)
Dallas Mavericks (+600)
Los Angeles Clippers (+700)
Los Angeles Lakers (+700)
Boston Celtics (+800)
Washington Wizards (+800)
Denver Nuggets (+900)
Minnesota Timberwolves (+900)
New Orleans Pelicans (+1200)
Currently, there are no signs that Trae Young will be traded off. After all, Atlanta has a shot at making the playoffs, presently sitting in a play-in spot and just 3.5 games behind the sixth-place New York Knicks. All hope isn’t lost yet.
However, it is apparent that the Heat’s offense is far from being efficient. Their ball movement is sub-par. They struggle to shoot a triple. Young and Dejounte Murray are not building the chemistry Atlanta hoped for. The plan is to bring in an HC who will be on the same page with Trae. But, if he gets into arguments with this one too, then the Hawks will likely trade him.
If the trade for Young goes through, the Atlanta Hawks will get a haul in return. Trae is averaging 26.7 points, 10.3 assists, and 2.9 rebounds a game. His moving to Miami is also a thrilling move because of the Heat’s lack of a franchise point guard. Kyle Lowry is up to his neck and quite unreliable these days.
In the case of the Bulls, London Ball’s future is bleak after he got shut down for the remainder of the season, due to a knee injury. It is uncertain what will happen to him. Bringing Young into the Chicago backcourt beside Zach LaVine will be pure magic.
It will be good to see if Trae Young will stay out of trouble or not in the months to come.
Kevin Love got into a heated altercation with his new teammate Bam Adebayo after he arrived at Miami Heat.
Skilled shooter Kevin Love is recognized for his excellent marksmanship since he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and now he has gone to share that talent with Miami Heat.
After the news was announced, Love made an Instagram post confirming that he was a new Miami player. As fans already know, Bam Adebayo is currently a player with the Heat and wanted to welcome Love to the team properly. Adebayo’s comment was NSFW but that only meant that he and Kevin get on well. Hoop Central reported on the interaction that entertained fans with their responses.
Bam Adebayo is known to get creative with his banter, which he does with his other teammates, so, he didn’t waste time in telling Kevin to ‘make some fucking shots’. To which Love responded: “You better create some fucking space,” accompanied by flipping hand emojis.
It’s clear to see that these two Heat players are going to have lots of fun in Miami and take over the Eastern Conference. This is because presently, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics seem like the only teams that are dominating this division. Miami and Chicago Bulls need to step up their game and reassure fans that they too have something to offer.
There is no doubt that Miami will make good use of Kevin Love. During the 2022-23 season, Heat struggled badly at the start of the season but now sit at a 32-27 record. They are just half a game away from becoming the sixth position in the Eastern Conference standings.
The idea behind their hiring this veteran player is that Love will help them with their shooting and rebounds too. But, he is a far cry from the player he was although he still has some good games in him. Bam Adebayo’s comment was also a test to get him fired up for playing for the Miami Heat after he got his buyout from the Cavaliers.
The Arkansas Razorbacks VS Alabama Crimson Tide matchup has two paths for the teams. On one hand, the Razorbacks get the ultimate opportunity to give their March Madness resume a huge shot in the arm this Saturday as they face off against the Crimson Tide on the road.
Will Arkansas defeat Alabama in Tuscaloosa? Or will the Crimson Tide sweep away the Razorbacks?
Keep reading this betting preview by MatchPlug for everything you need to know about the game between Razorbacks and Crimson Tide. It has the Basketball Predictions, picks, and odds for today’s matchup.
Predictions and Betting Preview for Arkansas Razorbacks VS Alabama Crimson Tide
The Arkansas Razorbacks are should play some of the best games they’ve ever done this season if they hope to secure an upset win against the Crimson Tide today. Arkansas were not close to completing this challenge last January at home when they lost to Alabama, 84-69.
But, in the games that followed, Arkansas showed that they shouldn’t be taken for granted even by a strong team like Alabama. They scored shots against the Texas A&M Aggies, Kentucky Wildcats, and Florida Gators after their loss to the Crimson Tide.
The Razorbacks’ defense can mess up their opponent’s flow for the whole game, as they rank top 20 in the country when it comes to adjusted defensive efficiency and top 25 in opponents’ eFG. The Under is 3-1 in Arkansas’ last four games on the road.
Betting On The Alabama Crimson Tide
Season record: 24-4
1XBet Spread: -7.5
1XBet Over/Under: Under 152.5
1XBet Moneyline: 1.288
BetMGM Spread: -8.5
BetMGM Over/Under: Under 151.5
Alabama has been noticeably great this season and is arguably the best team in the whole of Division I basketball presently, despite their loss to the Tennessee Volunteers (68-59) in Knoxville last week Wednesday. The Crimson tide gets recognized for its impressive balance on both ends of the course. They are great on offense and defense.
The Crimson Tide are top 15 in the USA in adjusted offensive efficiency and top 10 in adjusted defensive efficiency. The first time they met with Arkansas, they shot 54.6 eFG% and held the Razorbacks to just 44.3 eFG%.
Alabama went 9/20 from deep, while Arkansas made only two of 10 attempts from the back of the arc, in large part as the Crimson Tide’s defense didn’t give them space to breathe. The Crimson Tide are 6-1 ATS in their past seven home games.
MatchPlug Prediction
Alabama can watch out for a redoubled effort today from Arkansas, but they won’t fold. The Crimson Tide will find a way to cut through the Razorbacks’ defense at the beginning of the game and force turnovers for transition baskets to build a large lead in the first half.
Today’s Purdue Boilermakers VS Ohio State Buckeyes game brings to mind that one time on January 5th when the Buckeyes almost pulled an offset against the Boilermakers in Columbus.
The Buckeyes were on the verge of becoming sleepers to make a deep run next month, but since then everything has gone haywire.
Ohio hasn’t won a single game since January 21st; they are 11-5 and are a shoo-in having their worst season since the 2003-2004 campaign.
Purdue on the other hand will want to use this game as an opportunity to make a comeback after losing to Northwestern and Maryland.
A further breakdown of this game by MatchPlug can be found below. We also included some Basketball Predictions and Best Betting Tips Today for the Boilermakers vs Buckeyes match.
Zach Edey, who is the expected player of the year, has done nothing but play exceptionally for Purdue. Without his influence, the Boilermakers won’t even get a shot at the NIT Tournament. Edey’s numbers are great, but experts still think this team’s strength is overrated.
First, Purdue has a -12.80 record luck per Shot Quality. This is after they’ve lost their last two games, so, the numbers suggest they are close to regression. If Edey takes a night off, the Boilermakers should get ready to exit the tournament by March.
However, focusing on tonight’s matchup, there are some advantages Purdue brings to the game – the team is 10th in offensive efficiency and 25th in defensive efficiency. Furthermore, Mason Gillis and Fletcher Loyer also boost the team’s winnings.
Additionally, the Boilermakers make their free throws; they are 41st in FT%, so utilising the charity stripe has helped them in close contests. With the Buckeyes not being fantastic on defense, Purdue may make a comeback and dominate the offensive end of the court.
Betting On The Ohio State Buckeyes
Season record:
1XBet Spread: +12.5
1XBet Over/Under: Over 138.5
1XBet Moneyline: 6.60
BetMGM Spread: +12.5
BetMGM Over/Under: Over 139.5
The numbers show that Ohio State is overdue for some positive regression even if its metrics have been bad over the last month.
In Shot Quality, Ohio has a +12.46 record luck, suggesting a 2-3 additional win for them. This isn’t much of a shocker, especially since the Buckeyes are 25th in adjusted offensive efficiency.
One edge the Buckeyes have in today’s matchup is that they have the required size and athleticism for going toe-to-toe with the Boilermakers. Their offensive strategy revolves around its exceptional forwards – Brice Sensabaugh, Zed Key and Justice Sueing.
The Buckeyes’ strength in grabbing offensive rebounds will be vital in this game, as they rank 49th in the country in securing second-chance opportunities. They will try to trap the Boilermakers any chance they get and get Edey into committing a foul too.
MatchPlug Prediction
The lines opening at Purdue -12.5 isn’t much of a surprise; especially since Ohio has settled into their losing streak and doesn’t seem to be showing any chances of ending it.
This is a good opportunity for the Boilermakers, but some experts are taking this game over. Additionally, the Buckeyes may surprise everyone and bring a redoubled effort into the game.

Betting On The IUPUI Jaguars
Season record: 4-24

1XBet Moneyline: 13.00
BetMGM Spread: +17.5
BetMGM Over/Under: Over 150.5
The IUPUI Jaguars have had a tough year. They defeated Franklin, Spalding, and Texas A&M-Commerce early this season, then didn’t win any other match until February 4th versus the Green Bay Phonenix. The Jaguars have lost to Wright State Raiders, Northern Kentucky Norse and Oakland Golden Grizzlies since that time.
In the matchup on Wednesday when they played against the Golden Grizzlies, the Jaguars were in two points at the break. They possessed a strong second-half effort but were short 85-81. DJ Jackson headed the team with 23 points and four rebounds in the loss.
MatchPlug Prediction
The IUPUI Jaguars may not have had enough great moments this season, but recently they made a good effort against Oakland and are trying with their scoring. Jaguars have 68 points or more in eight of their past 9 games.
Detroit and IUPUI met back on January 21 in an 89-77 Mercy Titans win at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Jaguars conceded 50 points in the second half then, so they’ll need to play a complete game for today’s rematch.
