Myles Garrett is staying in Cleveland, according to those closest to the situation.
Trade rumors surrounding the star pass rusher have picked up after the Browns adjusted portions of his contract, a move some interpreted as preparation for a potential deal. But NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported Friday on Good Morning Football that the Browns are adamant they are not trading Garrett and that the contract adjustment had nothing to do with any trade discussions.
“It was not on the table last year. It is not on the table again this year,” Garafolo said. “The Browns are saying they’re not gonna trade him, and they’ve promised us that we’re not gonna look dumb if we say that.”
Cleveland went through a similar situation in early 2025, when Garrett publicly requested a trade before committing to the team after signing a four-year, $160 million contract. He then had one of the best seasons of his career, setting the single-season sack record with 23 and winning his second Defensive Player of the Year award.
Despite Garrett’s record-setting performance, Cleveland finished 5-12 last season, largely due to one of the league’s worst offenses. The team’s continued struggles have made it harder to dismiss the trade speculation.
The Browns’ recent proposal to expand draft pick trading windows from three to five years into the future has also fueled suspicion, with many viewing the two developments as connected.
For now, Cleveland’s message is clear. Garrett is not available.
