Atletico Madrid stretched their unbeaten LaLiga record against Real Sociedad to 13 matches with a 3-2 win, leaving the Basque side with just three away victories all season.
The match between the two Copa del Rey finalists got off to a lively start. Alexander Sorloth wasted no time in making an impact against his former club, volleying Atletico Madrid into the lead in just the fifth minute.
Real Sociedad hit back almost immediately as Carlos Soler unleashed a powerful left-footed strike into the top corner to level things up. The game continued at a breathless pace with half-chances at both ends, though neither side could find a decisive breakthrough.
As the match settled, Yangel Herrera struggled with his passing for La Real, but Atletico Madrid were unable to make them pay. Ademola Lookman caused problems throughout for the visitors, and Giuliano Simeone gave Sociedad’s defence a torrid time, though both attackers lacked the final touch on too many occasions.
At the other end, Orri Oskarsson offered little as an attacking threat, while Luka Sucic produced a brilliant run and shot in stoppage time that deserved a goal. Despite the late effort, a 1-1 scoreline at half-time was a generous reflection of La Real’s performance.
