The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without Anthony Edwards for the next several games after an MRI revealed inflammation in his right knee.
The team announced before Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns that Edwards will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks. A one-week absence would cost him at least four games, with Minnesota playing four times over a six-day stretch. A two-week absence would mean missing seven games.
Edwards is averaging a career-best 29.5 points per game this season along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 58 games.
The injury adds to an already difficult year for the sixth-year guard. He has also missed time with a right hamstring strain and a right foot injury, meaning he will finish the season with a career low in games played. He had appeared in 79 games in each of the three previous seasons.
The timing is tough for Minnesota. The Timberwolves entered Tuesday tied with the Denver Nuggets for fifth place in the Western Conference, two games ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the cut that separates playoff seeds from the Play-In Tournament.
