Manchester City to include Kalvin Phillips in the deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes

Manchester City reportedly want to add out-of-favour midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães to the Etihad.

According to the Mirror, the Cityzens are keen on the Newcastle United star and will do everything possible to land him this summer. That includes adding Kalvin Phillips to the deal, hoping Newcastle will soften their stance on selling the player.

Guimarães joined the Magpies in January 2022 from French side Lyon for a reported €42.10 million deal. He has become a key member of Eddie Howe’s side and has made 28 appearances this season. He has contributed to seven goals in all competitions this season (four goals and three assists) and is seen as a long-term fixture in the Newcastle midfield.

As such, the Tyneside club have slapped an €80m price tag on the 25-year-old, who still has at least three years in his contract at St. James Park. They do not want to sell him any time soon.

However, Manchester City do not mind bidding for the player and are looking to include out-of-favour midfielder Phillips in a deal for the Newcastle United star. Phillips joined the Etihad side last summer from Leeds United. But he has not enjoyed his time at City, with a lack of fitness and form restricting him to just 345 minutes of competitive action this season.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle will look to make it two league wins in a row for the first time since November when they travel to City Ground on Friday. The Magpies ended a run of five games without a win across all competitions (D2, L3) when they secured a late 2-1 win over Wolves last time out.

That result rekindled their hopes of qualifying for a UEFA competition for the first time since 2006/07, as they are now just four points behind fourth-placed Spurs.

Ahead of their visit to London, they will be confident of a positive result, given that they are unbeaten against Forest in the top flight since 1988 (W6, D4). However, they need to find their goal-scoring touch in order to record a positive result here and finish in a Champions League place, as they have netted just once in their last four PL away fixtures (D3, L1).

Manchester City will welcome top-four hopefuls Newcastle United to the Etihad this Saturday for another crucial game in the Premier League title race.

The Cityzens are looking to make it three wins on the bounce this time after recording a pair of 1-1 draws in the Premier League and Champions League two weeks ago.

They come into this tie on the back of two consecutive wins over Bournemouth (4-1) and Bristol City (3-0) in the FA Cup. With top-of-the-table Arsenal beating Everton in midweek, Pep Guardiola’s side come into this fixture sitting five points behind the Gunners. They also come into this game with a decent away record, with their current eight away games unbeaten (W4, D4) their longest unbeaten run for an away team in the PL.

They also possess a rock-solid backline that has conceded the fewest goals in the league away from home (seven), so they will likely provide stern opposition here.
