Vancouver Whitecaps captain suffers injury

Vancouver Whitecaps FC‘s strong start in the 2025 MLS season and Concacaf Champions Cup took a hit when team captain Ryan Gauld suffered injury which forced him off the pitch 19 minutes into the game against CF Montréal.

Gauld collapsed without contact while jumping for a cleared ball. He was replaced by J.C. Ngando.

Despite his absence, the Whitecaps took control of the game and scored 2 goals.

However, Gauld who has scored 34 goals and 43 assists in 111 MLS games could be a big loss for Wednesday’s crucial game against CF Monterrey. The tie is currently with the tie currently level at 1-1 on aggregate with a decisive match set for Estadio Corona in Mexico.
