Retiring Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos can match a club record with a win in the Champions League.
Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the final this weekend.
Kroos said: “Yesterday was our day off, but starting from today in my head there is only Saturday’s match because it is the most important of this season and the most important of all the competitions so from today all the concentration is towards the final.
“I have been lucky that these ten years have been full of successes and trophies, so it is difficult to choose the most special memory of the day of my presentation ten years ago. it was very special and hopefully also the images from the final on Saturday.”
With a victory, Kroos would join a legend like Francisco Gento by becoming the most successful player in the history of the Champions League with six wins.
“Winning would be important, not so much for the record, but to lift this trophy again.
I’m lucky to have already won five, but I always want more. We are close to winning another title and we have a lot of desire, but we also know that it will be difficult.
We know how to win these matches and we hope to be able to prove it on the pitch.”
Finally, a thought on coach Carlo Ancelotti who wanted him in Madrid: “I remember when I arrived here 10 years ago, Ancelotti called me before signing to tell me that he wanted me to come and that I could improve his team.”
