Mariano Rivera Tears Achilles at Yankees Old-Timers’ Day

Yankees legend Mariano Rivera suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the club’s 77th Old-Timers’ Day game on Saturday, his agent confirmed. The Hall of Fame closer is set to undergo surgery this week.

Rivera, 55, appeared to sustain the injury while fielding during Willie Randolph’s at-bat, just half an inning after singling off Andy Pettitte.

The all-time saves leader (652) and 13-time All-Star spent his entire 19-year career with the Yankees, posting a 2.21 ERA and cementing his status as the greatest closer in MLB history.
